  • Tiff, couldn't agree with you more. I used the term realistic about any improvement in funding and therefore services - any change won't be obvious for quite a long time. For example we're at year 6 of the national service framework for mental health which identified 6 years ago the need for crisis teams, and yet there are still 50% of people who use crisis services who don't have an out of hours phone number for the team.
I think I'd like to stress that if people want to give CBT a go they speak to their GP, who may not be fully up to speed with exactly what it is and how it works, or if they're using secondary services their psychiatrist, CPN or ASW, but be prepared to DIY as the waiting list for face to face CBT could be months and in some patches could be years. That's too long a wait for anyone who wants to recover, a lot or a little - doesn't matter, and is prepared to do something themselves about it.
Those working in mental health are appalled that services that should be provided and which they could provide, can't be because of lack of money.
  • I was referred to and seen by the crisis team at our local hospital, they gave me a phone number to call between 6am and 10pm every day. So no overnight support but worse than that, it was an answer phone and someone would call me back.

One of my phobias is answering the phone so not likely to get my call back am i!

    Hi Dora :)
My intent was geared more to the client rather than the funding and politics side of things. I think once you've been given the ok to give it a try, then go for it. CBT is more about working on yourself with review sessions on what you've experienced - basically, you prove yourself wrong by using logic and making plans and testing it out. It's really helped me with my agoraphobia and anxiety and panic attacks.

The funding and politics side of things is important - crucial in fact. Well, they are always asking for client feedback and involvement and if that's what they want, here it is...

    Tiff's starting a mini-campaign (I know, I'm off again! ) - how about :
    "HEAR US!"
    for it's name?

A nice Tiff letter is called for followed by many e-signatures and the area of UK you're in and/or messages (no swearing or references to him procreating!).
I know there are many focus groups but every one of us could join their ranks. What do you think folks? [STRIKE]Verily[/STRIKE], (sorry, wrong century!:rotfl: ) Say the word and they shall know that getting a Tiff letter is seriously bad karma.;)

Another way would be to bombard your local MPs with letters, sending a copy to your local newspaper. ;)
At least we could have our say. Things improve for other services generally when noise is made - surely it's got to be our turn by now? :o

I've reached the moment where I have snapped and really can't be bothered anymore. I've tried being nice and helping people in life, but everyone seems to take take take in the real world and give nothing back.

Thanks to all for their advice over the past few days/weeks/months and hope everything works out for you all, you all deserve happiness and success in everything that you do.

    Miroslav

    Miroslav, are you ok?

    Hi Tiff

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. Depression has been a more constant partner in my life than almost anyone, or anyone else :) I guess Miroslav's post made me worry - hate to think someone feels like that. Take care everyone...

I think that's why people on this thread value each other so much -they're amazing souls. :) We've all danced with that partner Saz. I know we're all worried about him, but he knows where to find us all when he's ready. All we can do is wish him well, hope he's safe and carry on together, helping each other. We can't change what we don't know about. You sound like a lot of us on here - wishing I could just save the world but we can't save everyone. No-one can. Sometimes you just need to take time out when you're going through a hard time. Miroslav - best wishes.
Take care Saz - try not to fret - he wouldn't want that. You have to look after yourself too ;)

You sound like a very wise soul, Tiff. Makes a change from the usual blank looks! :D I guess it's something we just have to work through, but knowing other people have 'been there, done that' really does help. :)

    Hi All,

Sorry I haven't posted for a day or two. Really relieved to be out of my horrid workplace and away from my b1tch of a boss. However am now getting myself all nervous about tomorrow. I really want this new job to work out and am starting to doubt my abilities and whether they will like me etc. I know some of this is my anxiety and paranoia, but it doesn't stop me feeling it. I got really drunk last night, which I shouldn't because of my meds, but I really felt like I needed it. Feel a little the worse for wear this morning, but not too bad.

Right, on to the rest of you!

Miroslav - Please post honey and let us know that you are ok. If things are really bad please speak to your doc, or CMHT or someone who can help.

Saz - welcome to the forum, you are most welcome here. You are right, I find it really helps to talk to people who have been in this situation. I don't know anyone who has suffered from severe depression (my sister had it mildly for a couple of months) so I have no one to relate to. That is why I find it really beneficial coming on here. People don't think I am overreacting or being silly and no one tells me to snap out of it.

Tiff - Hi honey, how are you? You always spend so much time caring for the rest of us, I worry if you get the same support back. Think I am going for your long post record today!!

Jellycat - Breathing techniques really help me, but only when I remember to do them!! Sometimes I find it difficult to find the time to sit down and do them, particularly when I am feeling het up, but it does really help to bring me down. Also am glad you said that about the phone, I hate answering the phone, I think it is the unknown, don't know who is on the other end of the phone, so feel scared. Don't really like talking on the phone much anyway. My hubby gets really frustrated when I keep asking him to phone people for me or answer the phone because I am scared to.

Mags - Hello and welcome to this thread. You are always welcome and I hope you feel the benefits of this thread in the same way I have. St Johns Wort is supposed to be good, but I can't take it with my meds. If I ever get off my meds will try taking that as an alternative.

Rose - Not heard from you for a couple of days, hope you are ok.

Also the rest of the gang - Slayerx, Mrs A, Dora, Bettyboop, hope you are all doing alright.

I will be popping on and off here all day, as not doing anything today. Speak to you all later.
