From the 1st November to 3rd January,
visitors to the Mental Health Foundation's website will be able to
get free access to Depression Relief - an online self-help program
that uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques. The program is
being made available by Ultrasis, the healthcare company that
developed Beating the Blues, the only computer based treatment for
depression recommended by the National Institute for Health and
Clinical Excellence (NICE) for use in the NHS.

Used by Primary Care Trusts in the United Kingdom and employee
healthcare providers in the United States, Depression Relief is
suitable for anyone experiencing mild or moderate depression. The
confidential program allows users to go at their own pace, learning
self-help techniques which can help them manage their condition.

"Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is widely recognised as one of the
most effective methods for treating depression, yet there is a major
shortage of therapists," said Andrew McCulloch, Chief Executive of
the Mental Health Foundation. Most people who want to try Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy have to join long NHS waiting lists or pay to
see a therapist privately. While online CBT is not a replacement for
face-to-face therapy, we need to start investigating other
supporting treatments that people with mental health problems can
    use."

Hi Gemmzie - acupuncture is supposed to be good for some people. I had it for something else for the first time at my GPs (!) by hospital physio & I tend to be sceptical but it worked for me! (currently eating my hat...lol). Good too for anxiety.
Lettuce is a natural anti-depressant especially in stalks. As I#ve said before check with your GP that any natural remedy won't conflict with any medication you're taking.
    Good luck.

  • Just wanted to say hello to you all, and to let you know that i haven't disappeared off the planet. Just things haven't been too good. Tiff my heart goes out to you, I think you are sooo brave, you have done the things I haven't even managed to do yet. My secret is still my secret, and I agree with rose in that the pain never goes away, you just learn to manage it better somedays, and somedays it overwhelms you and you feel like you are drowning in it. AAAARRRRGGGHHHHH

    Sorry about that!!!

Loving you all on this site. Hugssssssssssss

    hiya everyone
sorry i havent been around for a while i have been having broadband problems and been unable to log on
but on the other hand i have had a fab 2 weeks, dont know if its because my paroxitine has been doubled to 40mgs or if its because i have been off work with a raging chest infection.
the last 2 weeks have been very good indeed
my house is being cleaned every day
my body is being washed every day
went to an appointment at my local psychiatric day hospital and the staff were very nice i start computerised cognitive behavioural therapy next week.
still skint but i dont care i am so enjoying being at home relaxing and cleaning i am even starting to cook the odd meal again. i used to do all the cooking and cleaning in this house the family must be wondering whats going on with me showing such an interest in everything thats happening in the house right now.
part of me hopes its because of the increase in my medication but deep down i know its because i am not at work right now.
its not that i hate my job i just hate having to do it i would rather be at home looking after my family and my mental health.
    anyways better go for now
    take care everyone
    kindest regards

Mental Health Foundation website is http://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/
Today the Healthcare Commission has reported that people with serious mental health problems, schizophrenia, manic depression and severe personality disorder, cannot get the CBT they need. I'm pretty sure this means that if the number of CB therapists is increased they will prioritise those with serious mental health problems first, resulting in those with depression still having a very long wait indeed for CBT.

I've reached the moment where I have snapped and really can't be bothered anymore. I've tried being nice and helping people in life, but everyone seems to take take take in the real world and give nothing back.

Thanks to all for their advice over the past few days/weeks/months and hope everything works out for you all, you all deserve happiness and success in everything that you do.
