Evening all.
Quick one from me, just sending you all hugs.
I'm feeling good, feeling confident, and feeling postive.
Had some sad news, a forum member I was resonably close to has passed away, and we had unresolved issues. Never leave anything unsaid.
Thanks for being my family guys, thinking of you all tonight x x xStay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
gillette147 wrote:Well,
I have written materials testing software for 20 years under 4 firms. The current one for seven years. I hoped the relocation to take this job would be final. They are the biggest in europe at it. But they gave me too big a project and too little resource. I nearly killed myself trying to achieve it and failed. They just labelled me a failure and have made me feel miserable and unwanted there for the last 3 years.
As my family have been saying to me over the weekend - I've just lost a job that made me miserable. But the pay was ok and to start again seems daunting and impractical.
Anyway for the last 4 weeks since I was chucked out I have flip-flopped about - trying to decide what to do with my life. I have been through all the various options but had realised that one now seems almost destined.
Two years ago when the firm were hounding me (no pay rise and threatened with demotion) I took on a part-time role as a safety officer there. I took it to try to show them I still wanted to make an effort to fit in (and I hoped it would make them less likely to sack me in the future - didn't work lol)
I have been to a meeting a month about accidents and safety issues and have to risk assess parts of the building at times in the year. I enjoy it and find my natural wanting to do a job right is a positive benefit in it. I was sent on a day-long course when I started it so I even have a lowly qualification in it.
I just want a different job with a bit less stress and where my effort is appreciated. My last firm didn't even give me kudos for my efforts. Over the last 12 months I have free-wheeled there a bit but I know when I care about work I put more effort in, and for longer, than anyone I have ever met. I am not lazy - just uninspired.
Anyway - initial web searches looks like it will cost £5k to retrain and the exams are next july which could be a problem. But it just feels so right a decision. I need to do alot more research - I found a agency who specialise in these type of jobs so I will phone them tomorrow.
I hope someone actually wanted to here all this.
Cheers
Yes, we wanted to hear it:) It's a tough one to square, getting the work balance right - doing something you enjoy, feeling motivated, but not getting exploited or dehumanised. I bascially like my job and the people I work with, but the stress is too much and I'm going to have to call it quits soon. And I know Blinky has similar issues, if not more so. If you have an instinct for the direction you should be going in now, then I'd go with that. Yes, there might be retraining costs, etc, but do the research, call the agency and see how the land lies from there. If it's right, it'll come good for you. Saz x4 May 20100 -

Well, kinda good vibes. She apparently told flatmate she'd contact us both Wednesday (tomorrow) but I guess that means she'll contact me through flatmate, if she bothers0
