OMG - I've laughed so much at this thread I've had to stop when barely halfway through ! Saving the rest for tomorrow when I come home after another manic day at work. Will cheer me up.:rotfl:

I do most of these, but some were a revelation and I don't know whether to be glad I've not got the MSE bug that badly............. or annoyed that I didn't think if it first !!

    Love it.

If MSE were a UK political party there would be a landslide at the next election. It's our only hope. Any chance, Martin ??;)

.....whwn you go to the supermarket self-checkout when it's quiet to pay for your items in 2p's and 1p's. There's no commission-unlike coinstar

Or...in my case a local shop....they know by now that they always get my "shrapnel" when I'm paying for something there...and I get duly thanked for giving them some change for other customers...:D
  • Thank you this has had me laughing out loud! Keep up the tips. I look out for money on the ground but never find any - do you all live in HampshireLOL x

when your 4 year old DD walks into a supermarket and says "Come on Mummy, we're the Bargain Girls, let's get shopping!" and when you pick anything up, she asks if it's a bargain....

she also doesn't seem to realise that it IS possible to buy tins of beans etc that don't have dents/reduced price stickers on and told me the other day that they're just as good as other tins :)

I am VERY depressed. I'm addicted to this site but I am a really crap cook and my attempts to cook good cheap wholesome food is ending up costing me more as I'm throwing away more than we eat.
I can feed my family on beans on toast or egg and chips ...and save money but I want to be able to put things in the oven or slow cooker or whatever that turn out nice. The only thing I have mastered is broth and nice as it is there is only so much you can eat. Is any one in the same situation??

Can I join your club MyRubyRed. My kids reckon I can make a mean Scouse (liverpudlian stew) in the slow cooker, but I'm veggie and my DH agrees that it's mean but not in a nice way:rotfl:. Apparently most of the other stup I cook is carp.

when you are glad of another charity bag through the door to turn inside out and use as a binbag!

    HeHe, I do this too.

I have been known to ask, when at the supermarket check out, if the person in front of me does not have a loyalty card if they could use mine so I get the points lol, it has worked most of the time :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Thank you everyone , you have made me feel normal!:rotfl:I love the snowmans nose comment. I confess to stealing rudolf's carrot (minus a bit nibbled off as evidence) and adding to the veg prepped ready for christmas dinner!
I also put soap in a bag in airing cupboard to harden it so it lasts longer

I made a draught excluder out of part of half of the full length curtain which the previous owner had left, used an old pillow for stuffing and some old socks which no longer fit my son so am effectively saving money with something which has cost me nothing!:D

My next new MSE thing is to save the hand wash bottles and buy some cheapo bubble bath to fill them with!

Triker that made me smile, not because of your struggle but to know you are back :)
Slinky depends who you ask/what type of fridge I think, mines tried/tested on my own with electricity meter.....oh am I sad for just doing that :o probably! The milk had actually frozen overnight, milkman came at 8pm the night before I didn't know, no room in freezer either so left it there

I thought everyone used charity bags :o ,the ones that give 10% or less to charity or who are a profit making company give me pleasure too.

You go through your own bin to rescue items others throw out :o
Your partner FINALLY (as your cooking skills improve :o ) says 'not as nice as yours and you could have fed us all for the price of that meal'
The children know when items are too expensive in the supermarket
You start to bore yourself repeating money saving tips because too many don't listen
You're asked for advice when someone wants something cheaper, then blamed for finding him a cheaper xbox when he doesn't get into work
One day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb
