Anyone else "confined to barracks" because of the icy state of the pavements?

Oh great! More snow. Just had to ring work and say I cant get in due to snow. Sounds pathetic but if I made it to car I couldn't remove all the snow thanks to dis issues. Actually with the snow currently coming down I'm unsure if I could get to the car without lungs going on strike. I feel so bad with this as its these issues that show up my limitations.0

yup same here sheeps snowed in again ;( just as i was able to brave the outside world it snowed last night, lots of slush, but seems we must of had a lot fall as it pitched and settled again.
DS is not happy, his school is one a small amount that stayed open, whilst the majority are closed, and if school does close, he needs to go back tomorrow for an exam...
You'd think that they would move it to next week.. the snow will be gone by the weekend.0 -

I know what you mean Sheeps.
After a couple of days thawing, I had hoped I would be going out today. But, altho' we have had no more snow, the road outside our house is like a sheet of polished glass this morning. The cars that are using it are moving VERY S-L-O-W-L-Y, and it seems that the buses are cancelled - none gone past since I got up at 7:30.
Ds's school has closed too.
So another day in, and a 10 y.o. to keep busy as well.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -

Truth is that the local authority cant grit the whole country and it is an unrealistic expectation to think they might.
The real problem is the lazy !!!!less British people. In years gone by,people used what is known as a shovel, flat bladed device used for scooping up material, which can be purchased at most diy outlets.
Now they are far too lazy. We have situations where people wont even clear their own drive ways and paths and have no care for visitors to their premises. If i were for example, The royal Mail, I'd issue a policy statement that post men will not deliver to premises where snow and ice blocks their path and they consider it unsafe.
The other day i called at a house which is in an elevated position from the road. The drive from the public footpath to the entrance had not been cleared. There were a series of steep steps from the drive up to the front door and these were caked in ice/snow. Lazy !!!!less b*stards...had no thought for my safety and yet both occupants were able bodied.
So lets not campaign for gritters.
Lets campaign for the able bodied people of Britain to help themselves and others. Get out there, clear your path and your frontage. Have some backbone.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
At Matalan when it was bad snow here they seemed to have shoveled the snow from other spaces INTO the two Blue Badge spaces!! All the other spaces were clear,
On first glance this seemed stupid, but on thinking about it, perhaps sensible. Blue badge holders can park in any space - Non blue badge cannot park in blue badge spaces. Presumably they had to put the snow somewhere, at least this solution gives everyone somewhere to park. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

I agree with you C about people clearing their own drives and paths. I really don't understand why no-one does it anymore.
But, as I said at the beginning of the thread, the law is actually against folk clearing public access paths. If no-one touches the paths, and someone falls and is injured, then no one is to blame. But if someone makes an attempt to make it safer, and then someone falls, then the person/company who tried to clear the path can be sued for damages.
Crazy.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
