I have been reading your threads with interest when I am on here, and have found them very good reading. I have also read some threads from kittie which weren`t my cup of tea and I said so at least once.
I find it disappointing that you seem to feel kittie has been ganged up on simply because others had a different viewpoint.
Accepted that you dont - ie "actually know anyone on here".
Glad you like my threads.0 -
Back on topic.
Well - seems a bit of the personal preparedness stuff is paying a bit of dividends here.
It took a lot of informing/persuading/cajoling - but leastways I now know my elderly parents are sitting warmer in their house now.
Cavity wall insulation - duly installed in time before this winter - TICK
Halogen heater - bought and given to them in time before this winter - TICK and being described by them as "a godsend".
Throws - bought and given to them in time before this winter - TICK and being described by them as "being used frequently".
I tell them there are some advantages to having a "bossyboots daughter";):D
So - is everyone finished any checklist they have on ensuring that "frail elderly" have all that is required for comfort?0 -

:hello: D&DD its great to see you
My auntie has no phone line this morning, so I've reported the fault (what a palaver!) but eventually got through to a PERSON and now she's on the emergency track system as she's housebound and very vulnerable; still left her without a phone though, so in a moment of inspiration I took one of my cordless phones to her (she lives next door to me) and she now can phone out on my line! think we'll have to get some walkie talkies!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi Rosie
:D
re Auntie have you not got an old mobile she would be able to use? We have a couple of standard Nokias hanging around here for just in case but I know some older people do struggle with using even those..my Mum included!!0 -
she doesnt like mobiles D, I set her up with one a couple of years ago but she never used it. Her normal phone is a big button one so she will struggle a bit with the cordless one but it is quite big and at least it gives her a line; bt hope to get to her today or tomorrow
hope you find some strawberries... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Now there's a recipe I haven't seen before..meals out of spuds and wipes.;):D
I'm just eating from what we've already got in.I live walking distance to 3 spar's, 1 co-op, 1 Tesco, 1 Sainsbury's, my mums, my MIL's and my grandmothers ...sure someone will feed me.:D
OH has just got back from shopping, he went with a very detailed list which should have come to no more than £40.....but he spent £100!!!! I think he does it on purpose so I won't ask him again, but needs must at the moment as I won't drive in the snow. At least we won't be having to eat the wipes now!0 -
Excuse ME....that was unkind and untrue. kittie wouldnt bother at all if she didnt care...
We had both "kept our mouths shut" through the bout of badinage earlier on...even though I know I was certainly thinking "Any minute now i bet this thread gets thrown to the wolves on Discussion Time again.......I wish they wouldnt start this lark up at intervals - as if its all some big game.".
Many of us are doing our bit to help keep someone or other going - I dont think its wise to assume otherwise.
Kittie would find it difficult to live with her conscience if she didnt at least try - and I understand that...
Honestly some people are so quick to bite on this thread ! My comment wasn't aimed at anyone specifically - I was just saying that we should be aware of othersBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I groan when I have to go shopping with DH but like you I won't drive in the snow (1 in 8 hill and entrance off ungritted side drive) so I had no choice today. We were OK with what we had in the house but I wanted to get some more milk and fresh food (very low on fruit and veg) and I wanted a chicken for tomorrow rather than what we had in the freezer as I could do a rubber chicken make several meals.
OK so there were some good bargains on bulk packs of meat and cheese.
But I still don't understand how it came to quite so much??? What is it about men??
Still it was just as well as the forecast is for another 10cm of snow tonight so it will be days before our road is passable again. I'm happy now I don't have to go out again for the durationIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
