Thank goodness for a full stockcupboard

there's a world of difference between a well-stocked cupboard and hoarding or panic buying - they're 3 totally different things
The best thing about havng a well-stocked cupboard is that I don't have any need or desire to buy up all the flour on the c00p shelves!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Well stocked store cupboard can see us through many situations, stockpiling is different imho!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I hope that some of you are sharing your stocks!
I am keeping an 84 year old neighbour going, because she can't get out, so DS is running bits and pieces up to her and a hot meal every night.
Not all of us have an I'm alright Jack attitude.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

no we don't, I cater for my 84 yo aunt most days anyway, she also lives in this sheltered block and all the other residents are being checked on and helped by the warden or their families.
I would actually be ashamed to do what one woman tried to do here earlier this week - she expected to be allowed 8 loaves of bread for her family of 3 - selfish and greedy and she freely admitted she wasn't buying for elderly neighbours or anyone else, just for themselves... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Thread title: Thank goodness for a full stock cupboard.
My response is to that title and the opening post:
I couldn't agree more.
We recently lost a third of our already low income and in the next few months when DD leaves college we will be another third worse off leaving us living on only 1 third of what we had formerly been living on. I am unable to work due to health problems and although I can get out and about most of the time, I don't always feel well enough to do so.
Because a few months ago I knew we were going to lose the first third of our income, I stocked up on lots of items when they were heavily reduced or on brilliant offers. So when that that first third (confused yet?) of our income disappeared, we could go on without too much discomfort. Now the loss of the second third (yes this confuses even me, somewhat!) of our family income is looming and once again I am stocking up as much as possible for some very unpleasant times financially.
Although I am unable to work for reasons of ill health, I only receive a basic amount (no DLA etc) and once DD leaves college, we are going to be in dire straits as she plans to go to uni but go on living at home. Two adults living on only my basic amount is going to be tough. I don;t know how we will manage actually, but I do know that things would be a hell of a lot bleaker if I hadn't had the foresight to stock up.
I was fortunate enough to be the recipient of a Dehydrator for Christmas (a gift) and now I am dehydrating like mad. I buy the Morrisons fruit and veg products when they are being sold at sensationally silly prices and dehydrate it all and store it. So yes, thanks be to God for a full stock cupboard.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Sorry that Kittie feels she can't post anymore! I for one will miss her posts. It is interesting to read both sides of the argument and then make up our own mind! I was a scout (first girl scout in our district;) that's how I met dh) and the motto is Be Prepared! Which is surely what Kitties posts are all about?
Anyway I do have an adequate storecupboard although a lot is from approved foods so over its best by dates (but perfectly ok) which does put some folk off!
After wading through snow on Tuesday to get bread and milk, for an elderly neighbour, who has had one too many falls recently, at Aldi, which was almost empty that day with no panic buying, dh drove me to Sainsburys (I had forgotten to get some eggs and dog food) and the contrast was amazing! people had gone mad there! hardly any frozen foods, bread and strangely beer! it seemed odd (compared to others) to be coming out of the shop with just the few bits we needed and a supply of milk to put in the freezer for our neighbour.
I think better a knowledge of how to feed ourselves in hard times, beans to sprout, growing veg all year round, preserves and how to make a little go a long way will see us through.
Please can I reiterate what others have said and if you can, then check up on your neighbours, especailly if they are elderly or ill. I'm going to go get the breadmaker going to keep Mrs T in bread for now.Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Blimey...I only popped in quickly for Thriftys pork pie recipe and started reading this!
I've lost count of the times I've had 'discussions' around food storage on here and TBH each to their own,I've always said it's best to do what feels right for your own situation
I'm not out in the sticks like a lot of you on here but our estate is as usual cut off from the rest of the borough. There's a lot of people who aren't very mobile so my stores are being dished out daily as I have more than enough to go round.
We learnt our lesson from last time and now have a rota of people who collect lists from the elderly/vulnerable then take it in turns to go to the shops, must say it's worked well so far..
Hope you are all staying safe and warm

You are so right, it is awful to be completely out of something when a little careful planning could have prevented it. I have never forgotten the anguished cry of "are we out of toilet roll?, we must be the only house in the county that has run out" when I was newly married!
At the other extreme my Mum told me (at roughly the same time) to buy pepper whenever I saw it as there was going to be a shortage. When I went into her kitchen to make a cuppa and opened her cupboard I was staggered to see piles of drums of pepper, and I knew who was causing the pepper shortage! aaargh.
Nowadays I am pretty much housebound so need to be extra careful to not run out of essentials, but would always be hapy to share what I have with someone who has run out of stuff. The more I see of men, the more I love dogs - Madame de Sevigne0 -

I really hope so, surely a mature and intelligent lady would be unlikely to post anything in a churlish manner because of a disagreement on a thread? The more I see of men, the more I love dogs - Madame de Sevigne0 -
I've got 54 bargain packets of wipes on their way from Boots, if the delivery man can get thru' the snow. So I've got spuds and wipes, I really must get myself organised!0
