I always work a month in hand as I do a monthly online shop and that avoids me running out of something if Mr T doesn't deliver it - we are forecast bad snow from tomorrow morning until Wednesday and as we've only just cleared our drive from the last lot of snow/ice I'm not sure I'll be going anywhere! Good job I bought more cocoa powder on a top up shop last week - we can live on chocolate brownies if nothing elsePiglet

stocked up with stuff to last through next weekend - felt that was good balance between getting enough stuff to be safe, without being socially irresponsible
I mis-estimated how much room I had in the fridge and freezer, so a fair bit of stuff is in a box outside - I figure if it stays cold it will last outside - and if it doesn't stay cold - well crisis over, and if a couple of bags of oven chips get defrosted by mistake - well I can live with that
have bought full fat milk though, so I can dilute it at home according to need at least 50% maybe more if things worsen
interesting thread - thanks allI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Not a bad idea to fill the kettle before bedtime - there are some places with burst water mains and it looks like they won't get fixed for a few days.It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
I have a fair amount in and flour to make bread etc. BUT - With the weather looking like it's getting worse here my only worry is that I am using up my storecupboard stuff when the shops still have food in, then by the time I run out they will have too. Anyone else worried about this?June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

ragz look in your cupboard sensibly, work out how long (being realistic) each item will last you. Example even if I have risotto every other dinner for 2 weeks I won't run out of risotto rice I don't think. It's about being sensible not over buying. You'll end up like one of those trolley ramming nutters if you panic. If you lived here there is no point going to buy bread flour/yeast until they have had a delivery as they had sold out (I ran stocks down so just ordered some online through ebay)
Going to fill some pop bottles with water, not buying it unless necessary. Hate people panic buying. It was incredible in sainsbury yesterday, no hustling about etc but the lack of stock when it comes to bead flour, yeast, bread, milk, salt (of course none and some man trying to scrape the left overs from the shelf) dried milk was a little insane. M&S was awful, walked in and walked back out.
I've got enough to get us through at least a few days healthily, less healthy we'll survive for longer of course just without as much F&V, guessing about a week or more if I put my mind to it. We've been managing to get about, even if slowly, so I am picking bits up as I get things in for local elderly & family. One day I might be more organised...........

This post on my local freegle/freecycle really touched me and restored my faith in humanityHi, If anyone knows of an elderly person in H**** who is in desperate need of
bread I am happy to make some and send with my children. Hoarding/WW3 mentality
seems to have set in and the shops are bereft of things such as milk and bread.
The children have made a couple of loaves this am which are now proving and will
be baked later. However needs to be walking distance so H**** only.
Regards,
A
I actually emailed the poster to say what a lovely thing that was to do. Mo one took her up on it, but it is the thought that counts...June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

I buy about one bag of sugar per year (unless I'm baking, which I do less and less) so that particular shortage wouldn't worry me. Now if it was a cheese shortage......
BTW, my local supermarkets are no busier than usual.
Now - if its a cheese shortage - then you're alright as long as there isnt also a milk shortage. We'd all have to start hunting out recipes for you to make your own soft cheese from milk - I know theres some for instance on Rhonda Jean's blog.:D0 -

...ummmm...just bethought myself that it might be an idea to fill up the 2 huge vacuum flask type thingies I have (supposed to keep hot liquid hot for HOURS...hopefully....) with water in case..(I actually bought them back when to store boiled-up hot water in - as I worked my way through boiling up further water to the stage of having enough for housework purposes - but I could dual-purpose them).
I presume the water in my waterbutt isnt one solid lump of ice - so could use waterbutt water in an emergency I guess...0
