How can I clear my garden path of 7 inches of snow and ice without a shovel?

A stiff yard brush?.. sprinkle ash or table salt or boiling water or a solution of hot washing up liquidy water on the ice and sweep quickly.. ?

Failing that.. hairdryer on an extension cable.. :p

I have been known to use the kitchen spatula on ice.. and a carving knife for the thick bits...

I'm ok now.. next door is an industrial salt place.. I get gritted for free.. :D

Just signed DD up for The House Fairy programme (like FLYing for kids) - will let you know how it goes. Looks good so far - the House Fairy said to go and tidy 5 things away from her bedroom .... she disappeared and came back a minute later with a big grin saying she had a surprise and, sure enough, she's put some things away!

Just picking myself up from the floor :rotfl:

I get impatient and want things to happen quickly, but I think with this it seems a case of slow and steady wins the race!

I'll certainly give it a try. I'm not always lucky with this one, but I have a friend who's got very green fingers!
    Thank you!

With difficulty... are you sure you need to go out ;). How about dropping some dog treats in it and sending asbo dog out to dig it up? then you could try sweeping away some with a broom. Once you're down to the ice then dishwasher salt/ash/table salt (mix salt with sand/grit/ash if possible) will stop it freezing.

Having a CBA day today. Started on 2 year olds bedroom and decluttered some clothes and toys. Cleaned windows and windowsills (so I could see progress of snowclearing outside). Rehomed 2 boxes of clutter that DH had put in there - tools? I'm amazed DS hadn't sawn his leg off. Can't face DD's room. My bedroom now has piles of clean washing with no home - can't go on floor and no room in wardrobe. I think my get up and go has got up and gone.
Don't think about the stuff that's getting you down. Go back at look at the stuff that's nice and sparkly. And then go back to the 10 minute sessions - I think it was Mrs C who posted earlier about her dining room - start by the door. And use Valli's suggestion of boxes and binbags, so you eithe rehome/ebay/freegle/charity shop or bin every item. You'll be surprised how much you can do in 15 minutes.

So do 15 minutes of sorting, then deal with the contents of the boxes. Then another 15 etc, and eventually you'll win. Anything that is going to be binned or won't come to any harm out in the snow can be put outside prior to going off to wherever its going.

Honestly, you aren't alone, as you can see from what others are posting, we've all been there to some extent or other!

I've walked to the post office, posted my cheques to be paid into the bank :D and walked back via the recreation ground. Hundreds of children out sledging... and lots of adults snowboarding :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Checked my roof - only places where the snow has melted are on the NW side of the chimney and strangely a patch above my study... roughly above my desk. Must be all the hot air from talking on the phone :o:rolleyes:

OK... need to put another load of washing on, but if I'm going to do that, I might as well have a shower and change, so that these clothes can go in the wash. I've cleared the upstairs bins and sorted them, but forgot to put the rubbish and recycling out when I was out. I'll need to get more logs in tomorrow, and I also want to try to remember to take my camera with me when I go out too.. I haven't taken any pictures of the snow yet!

put jacket potatoes in oven. Kids have mutinied and won't eat them. DD has made herself some tea (as I refused to, not unreasonably IMHO) but DS thinks he is having Dominos. Which he is paying for. Well he's not. That Pizza delivery turns up here and there will be trouble. His mate will be OUT.
That child will be on this site on the DFW or bankruptcy boards he is so carp with money. It burns a hole in his pocket. Well he has not yet had his January pocket money and he won't be getting it if Dominos show up here.
