I see where you're coming from, but I didn't conclude from anyone's post that they were only doing sit-ups?
Personally, when I'm doing sit-ups in the morning regularly I feel much better in myself, refreshed and ready to go in the mornings. I don't care if it looks better or not, feeling better is the point and therefore it's definitely not a waste of time.
Knowing that, I still need to keep the habit going, which takes more effort when my work routine varies hugely. Thanks Sugarspun for starting the thread :T0 -
By definition, results aren't a waste of time - they're something that is in a different condition from when you started. Situps will make me feel better, combined with weight loss they'll make me look better, and that combination is really what I'm going for. If I do twenty situps instead of wandering in the direction of the biscuit tin, then I've done myself some good and that will make me feel better about myself and put my body in better condition (and, eventually, back into my pre-pregnancy clothing).Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

If it makes you feel better and/or you're doing it as part of a wider approach then it won't be a waste of time for you. It's just that I hear soooooooooo many people saying they do x amount of situps and then complaining they still have a fat tummy instead of a 6-pack, so just wanted to point out the bigger picture.
Clearly doing something is always better than doing nothing, as long as you are realistic with the expectation of what results you are likely to see.
Personally, a 6-pack (however vaguely noticable!) is one of my 2010 challenges so will have to see how that goes!Little lady arrived 13/12/110 -

Agreed! Feel far more energetic for the rest of the day after doing excersise. This morning I decided to work on technique, with the help of a pilates ball and Youtube, so I only did 20 squats, but they felt far more effective.
Then went through the stretches prescribed by the physiotherapist, and then browsed through the pilates book I have, so tomorrow will be extending the stretching routine and going for thirty squats.
Phoned the leisure centre 3 miles away, their steam room was closed so decided to go to the cheaper one closer by to go swimming. Did 14 lengths. Would have done more but had a quarrel with the OH. Grrr. Anyway, 350 metres is a start!POO - TEE - WEET

I've heard people say that too - I had a six-pack when I was 20 till about 25. I'm now 30 and I just had a baby by C-section, so the repair I can do is limited. But it makes me feel better to improve the condition of my abs, even if their appearance isn't ever going to look the way it did when I spent an hour or two in the gym almost every evening.
