50 000 Sit-Ups This Year - 2010 Challenge

  • I did a hundred squats today. It didn't seem very difficult... Am I doing them wrong? Knees are staying above toes and I'm at a right angle to the floor with each one.

Not doing sit ups until I get a sit up bar or figure out how to do them with pilates ball: worried about my back.

Going swimming tomorrow, got to walk 6 miles there and back! Maybe I should add walking and swimming miles to my challenge. Yes. I will.

  • Don't want to rain on anyones parade here but as has already been mentioned, unless there's no fat on top of the muscles then it doesn't matter how many situps you do cos any results won't be visible and a bit of a waste of time.

TBH, I would concentrate more on either cardio exercises to burn the excess fat or weighted squats which utilise a lot more muscles therefore increasing the overall potential for muscle building which in turn can lead to increased calorie burning.

Working a certain muscle will never make it more visible unless there is no fat on top of it, spot reduction of fat is a massive myth which leads to massive time wasting. Each person has their own pre-programmed way of losing fat and where it comes from first, some people will lose belly fat quite easily, for others it will be more stubborn, but doing thousands of situps on their own will not make your tummy look flatter/slimmer. Incorporating them into a sensible diet (as in nutrition plan not short-term diet) and exercise plan along with other muscle building exercises is a much better idea.
