  • My Gran had loads-

"Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves" If only I had listened.

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" I never quite understood what she meant until very recently.

"What goes around comes around" I do hope this is true, sometimes I wonder.

"Luck and fate is the same thing, its how you approach it that matters"

"Everything happens for a reason" - I struggle with this one, but I guess it leads back to what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!

Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. - Ferris Bueller, and so true!

Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think - Christopher Robin (A.A. Milne)

And from the great philosopher, that is my Dad "Never trust a man with a pony tail" perhaps not as useful as it was in the late eighties /early nineties but hell, I could have saved a great deal on teenage angst and heartache if I had listened to him!

    Happy New Year!

I wish I would take my own advice!

I read an article in the mail paper yesterday on "How to have a happy life" and it was a really feel good article....but what stuck in my mind was the advice about before going to sleep at night think of at least 3 things that made you happy/smile during the day.

Me and my 7 year old did at his bedtime last night and it did make me feel better and thankful for the small things and his reasons were so funny :)

Heres the article for anyone who would like a read of it. x

    I like this advice though

    be kinder than necessary-
    everyone you meet is fighting
    some kind of battle.

    Live simply,
    Love generously,
    Care deeply,
    Speak kindly....
    Leave the rest to God

The three things is something that I used to do with ex, and I started doing it again in the middle of last year - there is always something to be grateful for, even if it's just the fact that you're still alive!

But there's always silly things, I walk my dog in fields and I always look about and see deer, hear the birds, unfortunately at the moment it's snowing a blizzard up here this morning, I'm trying to be grateful that it's warmed up and not minus 10, but driving to work at lunchtime is going to be fun!!
  • Hi ther
    Great idea for a thread

    My tuppence worth is:

1)things don't happen for a reason: life can be randomly difficult and cruel or stunningly uplifting in unexpecteded twists.
However, we have the wonderful resource of ourselves to cope and overcome a day at a time and to find the joy in small things and to relish and appreciate the good times as part of the circle of life and the human experience. We have the capacity to turn all the various paths we could have chosen each and every day into a feeling of 'this was meant to be'.

2)Only spend time with people with whom you feel uplifted. Cut ties with anyone who is a friend out of habit, who you have now outgrown and their outlook on life drags you down.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Women are like teabags. You never know how strong they're going to be until they're in hot water. (Eleanor Roosevelt?)

What goes around comes around (I can't say how much I hope this is true of those rotten so-and-so's who cause so much hurt to others!!)

There are a hundred different roads to God

Feed the birds - boy do they need it - frozen solid here today again.

Don't use your debit card in the shops - take the money out of the hole in the wall - that way you know what you've got.

Smile - it's good for the chuckle muscles & is a gift people can pass on to others.

My fav is - if you always do what you have always done you will always get what you always got.

i.e. if you want things to be different you will have to make changes.
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!
  • My one is one from on here- 'this too will pass'. Everything is just a phase so make the most of it, but don't stress too much about it either.

ive said that to myself many times...and n matter how big something seems at the time, eventually it wont be such an issue

you want the only half decent piece of advice my mother passed onto me??
*ahem* you ready for this?? ....

if you have a stomach ache... go for a poo

ive tried to find secret hidden meanings in it, hoping to find some deep soul searching truth... but it think its pretty self explainitory (still true though :D)

The one I always follow is...

"It's better to regret the things that you have done than the things that you haven't!"

So if you're undecided about doing something DO IT or you'll only regret not doing it ;)
