So.... happy new year and all that jazz..
Personally I wish to start 2010 on a much better note than 2009 and keep the positive momentum going.
If you had once piece of advice to give, no matter the topic, what would you offer up?
Doesn't necessarily have to be financial advice (although this would help!).....
If you're a nutritionist/healthy person - perhaps you could tell us all one little thing to keep us all healthy after the Christmas indulgance
Social workers/counsellors - pass on a little tip to help to keep a tricky relationship working
Have you read/been told a quote that you can really identify with - perhaps read in a book or passed on by your Grandparent
So... no matter where you are or what you do - I'm sure you all have one piece of advice to impart! Look at it as a good advice swapshop.
So go on, give me your one piece of best advice. I think we could all use a wee bit of help going into the cold & dark January, I know I sure could.
and...
PS. if anyone says 'don't eat yellow snow' yes I think we have that covered!
oops. forgot to add mine! I always like 'they say the darkest hour is just before the dawn' think I heard it in a song once - for me I take it as whenever I feel at my absolute lowest the only way is up!
**UPDATE**
OK... for ease I'll pop the great advice into a list below. I might read once a day just to maintain that positiveness! I have tried to not repeat the great advice so if yours isn't exactly how you quoted it, it'll be there in some form.
* Feel the fear and do it anyway
* Be careful how honest you are
* Tell the truth you can answer a question instantly because it happened & you remembered it
(don't get caught in a lie)
* What goes around comes around
* Live in the moment
* Things happen for a reason
* Happy Days, make your memoreis now
* Just because we are dealt a certain hand doesnt mean we can not rise above it
* Be nice to people on your way up because you'll meet them on your way down
* dont go to bed angry stay up and fight (ok, a lil tongue in cheek but always better to air the differences)
* Every man is a damn fool for at least five minutes every day; wisdom consists in not exceeding the limit
* Get away from 'toxic' people, life's hard enough
* You'll sleep better tonight if you've done today what you could have put off until tomorrow
* Treat others as you'd expect to be treated yourself
* In certain situations, see all, hear all, say nothing
* Don't sweat the small stuff - Life is far too short to spend worrying about things that don't matter. Think about
how important something really is before you let it ruin a day
* I think I would advise to make things happen for yourself, by yourself, thats what I am going to do
* never to expect to get back what I give out...or I will just end up disappointed
* Don't worry, it always comes out in the wash, and you know, it does!
* He who dares - wins (from Del Boy (not the SAS). Useful in small businesses!
* seize the day - I take this to mean make every day count, use the moment/the opportunity that every day offers
* Do one good deed every day (I really like this one, definitely going to do this)
* Don't look back in anger
* shed the baggage (the "toxic", negative people, unhappy memories, useless routines etc)
* Eat Less Move More
* Drink more water
* This too will pass. Everything is just a phase so make the most of it, but don't stress too much about it either
* Far better to regret things you have done, rather than regretting not doing things, seek forgiveness not permission
* Try not to rely on anyone who has promised you money keeping that promise - be they an individual or employer
* Try to keep spare money for any let downs (per above)
* Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves
* What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
* Luck and fate is the same thing, its how you approach it that matters
* Everything happens for a reason
* Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it
* Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem & smarter than you think
(I love the above one, thanks!)
* Never trust a man with a pony tail! ;-)
* before going to sleep at night think of at least 3 things that made you happy/smile during the day
* be kinder than necessary, everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
* Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly.... Leave the rest to God (lovely)
* There is always something to be grateful for, even if it's just the fact that you're still alive!
* Things don't happen for a reason: life can be randomly difficult and cruel or stunningly uplifting in unexpecteded
twists. However, we have the wonderful resource of ourselves to cope and overcome a day at a time and to find
the joy in small things and to relish and appreciate the good times as part of the circle of life and the human
experience. We have the capacity to turn all the various paths we could have chosen each and every day into a
feeling of 'this was meant to be'.
* Only spend time with people with whom you feel uplifted. Cut ties with anyone who is a friend out of habit, who
you have now outgrown and their outlook on life drags you down
* A flow of tears, like a flow of water, can wash away poison (Anya Seton)
* Women are like teabags. You never know how strong they're going to be until they're in hot water.
(Eleanor Roosevelt)
* There are a hundred different roads to God
* Just because there's snow on the roof doesn't mean there's no fire in the grate!
* A few drops of dirty water cannot soil a whole ocean (Gandhi)
* Feed the birds - boy do they need it - frozen solid here today again!
* Don't use your debit card in the shops - take the money out of the hole in the wall - that way you know what
you've got
* Smile - it's good for the chuckle muscles & is a gift people can pass on to others
* We never fully appreciate what we have got until it is taken away (so true)
* Whats for you will never go past you (love this one too, the Scottish say 'Whit's fur ye'll no go by ye!)* If you always do what you have always done you will always get what you always got i.e. if you want things to be
different you will have to make changes (fabulous advice!)
* If you have a stomach ache... go for a poo! (thanks CG!) :-)
* It's better to regret the things that you have done than the things that you haven't!
* The best things in life aren't "things" (so true)
* The harder I work the luckier I get
* Out of debt out of danger
* Keep your friends close, your enemies even closer
* remember that everything is temporary- EVERYTHING, the good and the bad stuff. LIfe is full of ups and downs
and we are in constant state of flux...so, don't panic if things change, don't be scared of changing- just go with it
and see what can teach you about yourself.
* Take care of yourself- the rest will come
* Spend some time every day just with yourself. Take time to stop and re-connect with yourself. Take that time
everyday to say 'hello' to your inner self, because that is where our strength is, that's where the inner compass
lives...when we lose touch with that, we lose ourselves. (I think this is my favourite, thank you!)
* Always remember to say 'thank you' for everything you have and everything still to come
* It doesn't matter- because you know, it doesn't really matter at all!
* God grant me the serentity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, And
the wisdom to know the difference (stunning)
* Find gratitude for the things you have
* Appreciate the beauty of nature, people and the world
* Get focused, know what it is you want from life, then GO get it!
* Anything is possible
* Start by admitting from cradle to grave, it isn't that long a stay'. I believe I'm only here once so I enjoy it and let
people I love know how I feel because when they're gone, they're gone too. (Liza Minelli)
* Whilst reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet
* Only boring people get bored
* Live in the NOW
* Accept everything that comes your way even those situations perceived as negative, just let it flow right through
you. Otherwise you are resisting life itself. Because what you resist- persists; and what you look at- disappears.
So deal with it!
* And this too shall pass (simple yet so effective, thanks x)
* Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want

Feel the fear and do it anyway.........
Because the fear is normally of the unknown, and if you don't face it you will never know. It's worked for me - just pretend you are confident and guess what? It works :T0 -
Be careful how honest you are.0

jm2926 I couldn't agree more! this is just so true, I've actually tried this out myself and it absolutely works, thanks for the reminder.
faithcecilia - yes, I've too learn't the hard way to keep something back - it pays to read each situation and think about first what comes out.0 -
If you tell the truth you can answer a question instantly because it happened and yu remembered it how it actually was.
If you lie you have to pause and try to remember the lies that you told and risk getting it wrong if you cant remember the lies that you told previously.
A very happy new year to all.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I have three that I live by:
1. what goes around comes around
2. Live in the moment.
3. Things happen for a reason.
I get terribly stressed sometimes, I'm a mature student and I work part time and my mind races all over the place sometimes, and the live in the moment thing is something I read a while back. Basically, concentrate on what you are doing at that time, so much that you don't think about anything else. When I am out walking the dog I look at the birds, trees (snow at the moment!) and blank out any negative thoughts.
I've had a really crappy christmas and new year, PC died, had to call a man in to put the new one together and get the docs off my old one, pipes froze and flooded the kitchen twice in two days, spent too much time on my own, was snowed in for five days and couldn't get out to see anyone, but there's a reason for what's happened. PC dying meant I got ex's name off the PC when I booted up, kitchen flooded meant the guy next door came and helped me and I got to know him better, being snowed in meant I learnt to spend time on my own.0 -

My favorite one has to be: Just because we are dealt a certain hand doesnt mean we can not rise above it.
A few others ive heard over the years are:
Be nice to people on your way up because you'll meet them on your way down
dont go to bed angry stay up and fight (ok, a lil tongue in cheek but always better to air the differences)
and
Every man is a damn fool for at least five minutes every day; wisdom consists in not exceeding the limit.0 -
