Burlesque Babe bid to stay debt free in 2010

have debt more like!!!
Well, I'm the proud owner (well, when they've done a service on it for me) of another Honda Civic
Only managed to get £95 off the ticket price (I need that rolling eyes smiley!) but they said they would service it, put a new tyre on (OH said it needed one even though it has just passed its MOT) and there is a small cosmetic dent on the boot they'll remove for me. Just couldn't get the price much better - the deals were £1300, no warranty and take it as it is, £1350 3 month warranty (which are usually pretty useless - stuff like 'rear windscreen washer motor') take it as it is or £1400 with a service, tyre, dent removed.
It's got a full Honda service history up to 8000 miles ago, 2 previous local owners who almost lived on the same road in Bridport and it's in lovely gunmetal grey.
I know just £95 off sounds like a pants deal but they really wouldn't come down. Started at £1150 and then £1200 to take it as it is but they wouldn't budge.
However, it's the right car for me, at the right price - for me. Another £100 off would have been nice but I will now have a slightly younger car with a better service history with 14,000 miles less on the clock. I don't have to buy 2 new tyres (my old one needed 2 quite soon!) and I don't hopefully need a battery (the old one wasn't holding charge).
Just now need to get an offer on the table and take it from there to get it as close to £1400 as possible to minimise the amount I'll be in debt when the dust settles.
I'm pleased with what I've bought"Stay Wonky":D

I think you have a very good deal there BB. I think you have probably found the most reliable car you can for the money availableI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

It has to be - after all the Polo wasn't the right decision was it?
Dear god no............as soon as I walked up to it, I knew it wasn't right. I didn't even want to drive it round the block but felt I should. He will really struggle to sell that for £695. There was rust under the bonnet near the catch, the roof now in the dry weather was pretty unsightly, and......well, no. Just no. And the brakes  I'm so glad I didn't agree to it yesterday in a fit of impulse!!"Stay Wonky":D

Sounds like you got the best deal BB. You shouldn't lose any no claims from your bash as it wasn't your fault.
However, you may well have to buy a new premium for the year. Although my insurers let me switch to the new car for £45.No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
not sure Gemmz - I did some reading and apparently even a no fault claim means losing a year or two's no claims bonus. I remember when I was with my ex and someone reversed into the side of our car when it was parked it was a 2 year loss
Almost left £5 in the self service note/change dispenser at Asda. I'm such a numpty!"Stay Wonky":D

Cheers beanie xx
Woke this morning with that slight feeling of rising panic about money. Not the money for the car, I know most of that will be covered, but day to day finances this month. I just feel they've run away with me and my current account is a bit of a minefield _pale_ There's 4 days to payday and as my salary is different each month, I don't know what I'll be getting but it won't be brilliant. I'm going to have an optimistic guess at £1250. I can't even seem to get into my current account this morning to survey the mess, Abbey seems to have a bit of a problem at the moment."Stay Wonky":D

Still can't get into Abbey online banking. It says 'error on page' at the bottom when I try to log in.
Think I should SORN my old car. Tax is due the end of the month and until I'm asked to send the documents in, the DVLA won't know (I guess) and so I don't want to ignore it and then get a fine 2 weeks into Feb."Stay Wonky":D

It only made mine go up £45 though and I had 5 years with 1 no fault previously.Burlesque_Babe wrote: »Still can't get into Abbey online banking. It says 'error on page' at the bottom when I try to log in.

You only keep the no claims bonus if you pay for protected cover (some companies include that in the fine print anyway) but if you win the claim and get your money from the other side - your no claims bonus will be reinstated and the insurance company should refund you any premium you've overpaid on new cover."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W.
