Ah I see for the internet. There are some good phones for the net around that aren't touch screen, I've just got a Sony Ericsson W995. Touch screens break down a lot so I wasn't fussed and buttons are still easier for texting.

shhhhhhhhhhhhhh, am at work, will probably be hauled up by the internet police for this month, but hey!

Might have car news............might be buying one tomorrow and it isn't the Hyundai (sob, really like it!). My sensible gene may have won the day. I'd insert the rolling eyes smiley at this point but apparently it can't be used anymore so I'll just have to say it instead!

lol - well, am home now so can be a bit less rushed ;)

Before Christmas, someone in another department advertised a P reg. Polo. Mother in law had to give up driving, 88k on the clock, full service history but only 6 weeks left on the MOT. £695. At the time, I emailed him with questions, he answered a few and then it went quiet. I emailed and no reply. After New Year, I emailed to ask if it was still available - he said it was and would send a bit more info. He didn't. To be honest I gave up, only so many times you can chase so I guessed he'd sold it elsewhere or didn't want to sell it. The near lack of MOT also put me off a bit.

So, I'm now all geared up to see this luvverly Hyundai........and yesterday he emailed to say he'd put it through the MOT and was going to put it back on the intranet unless I was interested. I was soooo confused. Lovely car but with a 2 litre engine and probably higher insurance? Or more dull car but will maybe have a little bit of change from my payout and insurance should stay somewhere similarly priced after I lose whatever no claims I lose.

I emailed to say I'd decide early next week after seeing the Hyundai but it kept niggling at me to see the Polo so I emailed him today and he popped to my office with it. I literally had 2 minutes to see it as we were both working but it's great. It feels bigger than I remember (I had a Polo when I worked in Ireland 10 years ago) and is tidy inside. Sat in it - felt right. Basic but good driving position which is important. There's a couple of bits of rust on the passenger side sill but he said that hadn't been mentioned on the MOT, he'd had to have a bit of seatbelt anchorage welding done and some part like a bush or something similar I remember from having done on the Honda. I can have it for £650 if I want it.....

So, bit sexy fun coupe which I like, but higher petrol and insurance costs and the unknown of buying from a garage 25 miles away? Or, practical but still ok looking, feels good when I sit in it and keep the petrol and insurance costs down and perhaps have a bit of money leftover.....

Since looking at cars, OH has said 3 times that I'm too big for a small car. Well, he's wrong. There was plenty of room for me in the Polo, no different to sitting in any other car and I'm going to tell him so when he asks about it all later. He put doubts into my mind and I've kept away from considering small cars because I was scared I'd look stupid trying them out.

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

A garage about half a mile from me has a 97 Honda Civic 3 door for sale........not a coupe but the same as my old car just a bit shorter. 84k, £1495.

!!!!!!..........6 weeks of not much to look at and now 3 in the same week to choose from.......no photo of it yet. Might take a pootle up to have a quick nosey at it.

Edit: had a pootle. Looks a nice car. I'm not quite sure on the styling of the 3 door versions, they always look like the back has just been chopped off.

Need to go into corporate mode and do a SWOT analysis :D

like Buses these Cars BB...Will the garages give you any warranty? Mind you, you still have no guarantee that the garage aren't trying to flog you a dead horse so to speak. Personally I would go for the polo..just havea look and see if there has been any major work lately. Also my sister just had to buy a new car (hers was a polo and gear box went with only 48k on the clock) and there was a known batch of them that had this problem. Might be worth looking up to see if there are any mass faults on that reg, model etc
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....
    Finally Debt Free...
  • Went to see the Polo - complete rust bucket when the bonnet came up. Gave it a drive - the brakes had to be pressed a long way down to stop! The top had odd shaded paint which I couldn't see in the rain - apparently it needed re-vinyling? (the way to get around the lack of the confused smiley :D) and the driver window needed a new motor. Definitely walked away!

Insurance will be around £10 per month more on the Hyundai and could be more depending on how many no claim years I lose (I guessed 2) and with a 2 litre engine will cost more in petrol. If I lose my afternoon job at some point this year, that extra money (I'd guess £20-£25 per month) is on top of an already tight budget so sadly I'm not going to go to Cadnam to look at it through being very sensible.

So, just the 3 door Honda on the list at the moment. Seen it in the light and probably going to have a drive later today.

It has to be - after all the Polo wasn't the right decision was it?
