Conversation this morning:
OH: your engineering thing has failed - there's water escaping from one side and the ice expanded again outside the door
BB: I could really do with the ice breaking up properly with a spade and then some sand outside the door to create access
OH: Well I haven't got any sand
BB: I didn't ask you for any. You must know plenty of people who do though? (remembering OH has worked in the construction industry for 30 years as a quantity surveyor and his best friend of over 20 years owns a building company locally)
OH: It's Sunday
BB: That's ok - could you ask x tomorrow if he has a bit of sand you can have? (his friend who owns a company)
OH: you need gritting sand, not normal sand
BB: it's got to be better than nothing though
OH: I'll see what I can do (grumpily walking down the drive)
10 minutes later he is back.......with a full big bucket of sand (his own - miraculously) and a spade.
OH: I'm only breaking up and sanding this bit by the back door. (3 foot by 3 foot patch now down - just what was needed)
BB: That's fine - as long as there's some access
Oh: It will freeze you know and the sand will be slippy
BB: That's ok - I can move the sand away tomorrow if needed and hopefully underneath will be frost free to at least step across the top of the drive.
Talk about hard work.....
So for the last 8 or 9 days while I've had solid ice and even my neighbour offered sand a week ago before it got as high as the top of the drive (and OH didn't go over because he was trying to avoid him after agreeing to buy the tools!) he had sand at his house he could have brought round. I knew he'd have some, he has loads of building type stuff there of his own. I know it isn't gritting sand, but surely it's worth trying?
Sigh..........to be honest, I'm too  to be  at his lack of thought whilst I've struggled to break ice - with only the end of a broom
Ah, but you don't understand...he *had* no sand. He just had do go home, cluck like a chicken and have a small pile of sand drop out...
What if you had slipped, fell, and broken something? What would have have done then? Shut the door after the horse had bolted and sorted it out? Looked after you when you were unable to do things for yourself? What?

What does *he* do for *you*?but probably best not to expand on past experience
Just had a call from Asda, I think she apologised about 15 times (she even said 'I'm sorry I keep saying sorry'!!) about my 2 cancelled orders. She said that store managers just follow instructions to do a blanket cancellation of orders. I explained that Tesco hadn't stopped delivering to my area - cue more 'sorry'!!
Anyway, they have put a free delivery and a £5.50 credit (strange amount!) on my account. Apparently.....currently checking......yep, there!
Back to using Asda then"Stay Wonky":D

Back to work today - boo hiss!!
Made a decision last night about some of my teaching. I'm committed to teach for the next 5 weeks so will be doing that. There's then a new 5 week course starting mid Feb I said I would teach. However, I need a break from working full time and teaching and doing my teaching qualifications and all the teaching prep. I decided to say I didn't want to teach the course starting mid-Feb. I know there is a tutor who hasn't got any work at the moment who also teaches cookery so I suggested it go to her.
On the face of it, not a wise move.
I teach for 2 hours a week and earn £35. Nice amount of money for 2 hours work!
However........
Less tax/NI....... down to £25.......less
half an hour in the supermarket getting ingredients
getting to the venue 45 minutes early to set up
leaving venue 15 minutes after class after ensuring all is cleaned down etc
less teaching prep of probably average of 2-3 days to do initial set up of paperwork
less weekly teaching prep of around 30 minutes
Printing/photocopying
all unpaid.
Not so good looking now........plus there is so much paperwork, you really wouldn't believe it and after each 5 week course I'm starting from scratch again researching and planning and devising the next one. I haven't been observed yet this year and there are so many boxes to tick for paperwork/how I teach/how I evidence learning/how I follow up initial assessment, it just goes on and on and on.
I've been spending weekends doing teaching prep - for no pay which means I can't do AQA, which does earn me money. I can earn more money in a weekend than 2 hours teaching late at night during the year.
It's also physically hot and tiring. I get in from the class with 12 cookers going for 2 hours and it's 9.30, so an 11 hour day. I get showered, wash and dry hair and eat around 10pm. I'm back in the office for 8.30am.
I went into teaching knowing it was something I'd always wanted to do, but the reality is paperwork, lots of hidden hours of work and a tiring experience late at night.
I don't regret saying I don't want to do it!!"Stay Wonky":D

Hi btw, serial lurker0 -
I also went back to work with my afternoon job being out of contract. I jokingly said to my manager that I thought I'd just turn up and see if I had a job
I knew it was being extended but he'd forgotten about sorting it for me. Will be a March/April/May extension, he didn't know which. After that it will be whatever the new structure offers in the area I'm working in for my afternoon job and look to get it made permanent. I'd like to be able to had what I do in the afternoon extended to a full time post and ditch my morning admin. job. One step at a time though - at least I know I'm ok until around Easter.

You tried it, you don't like it, you're going to drop it.
