  • Birdie ever since I've known you you've been dreaming of this exotic wedding in the Caribbean - don't let your friend put you off and force you into something you don't want. You need to have a frank talk with her before anything gets booked, sounds to me that she's really worried about money and doesn't know how to tell you. If she decides not to go, it'll be a relief for her and also for you as you'll be able to book whenever you want - it might be cheaper. I guess it's something you have to consider if you get married abroad - that not everyone will be able to make it.

Eek to the scan Dinah, and then no doubt you'll have to wait just as long for treatment?!

Good for you Flower going to the gym!!

Got to make the most of it as we're cancelling the membership because they have decided to increase the price by £10 each

Found out this week one of my good friends is getting married abroad, really dissapointed as would have loved to go we've been friends since the crib, but he says they can't afford a UK wedding and we won't have the holiday time to go. All I can hope is they have a good party here when they come back. Is this something you've considered doing Birdie so everyone feels involved in your big day?

It's weird, 19th of Feb doesn't seem too long away for CMD's due date but it seems so far off for you MRI! I guess at least you have the date now, and you're right about having lots of time to get things done. Silver lining and all!

Your bridesmaid sounds a bit cheeky Birdie!! It isn't really fair her trying to change you mind on the wedding. How lovely is you Mum for offering to take you to America though! I'd go! I'd just do what Dinah suggests, leave the major cards at home and just take cash.

Have 'fun' at the gym Flower! I need to get back on the treadmill or fitness DVDs but I cba if I'm honest! :D

Really confused by quidco. Logged on today to see if my £50 from Orange has been paid and I had £20 extra in my account. Clicked on it and it's from a bike insurance quote I went through them to get. It says on the page '£20 for an approved policy' but I didn't buy anything!

Re: your bridesmaid. I would nip that in the bud now and ask her if she wants to come. She is wrong to put pressure on you but you don't want someone there that is resentful. She owes it to you now to be honest and tell you how she is feeling as you don't want her pulling out at a later date.

You know what to do Birdie - take your mum up on her amazing offer, leave all your bank cards at home and only take cash with you so you don't overspend.

When we were looking there was a deal at a very nice hotel and it was £4000 for everything, day meal for 40, evening for 100, bridal suite, ceremony, a photographer, their DJ, a cake, flowers, master of ceremonies, basically everything but the rings, but it has to be what you WANT, at the end of the day money really isn't everything, you only get one chance at getting married and you know what you want from your wedding, and for you that has always been the tropical paradise not nessisarily having everyone you'd like there, and thats fine, the most important thing is to look back on the day with no regrets.

Thanks girls! You're right CMD and Tete, I need to speak to her and ask her if she wants to come or not. Whilst I'm happy to make things fit around her if she really does want to come it'll be cheaper for everyone else if we go at another time, not to mention there'll be fewer kids running around! I totally understand being worried about money so I'm not going to be mad if she can't come!

You're right too Dinah, I don't want to look back at my wedding with regrets. I've wanted to get married abroad for years, especially as I've known for just as many years that I'll have to pay for it all myself. I don't want an off-the-shelf English wedding that's just 'OK' and I can't afford to make it amazing; I told my friend that if I did have a 'cheap' wedding she'd be the first to pick it to pieces!

I'm going to think about my Mum's offer. I'll see how much I could take with me if I do go. I'm also worried about her as I'm not convinced she can really afford it, she has a tendency to spend money like it's going out of fashion and my Dad only finds out until it is too late how much she's spent! I'm worried that she keeps dipping into her savings and I don't want to be to blame for her doing that!

  • Per month?? What a cheek! I want to take up running actually, and that's free isn't it? Once the weather improves a bit ...

ETA - how long did it take me to type that?! That's in response to Flower's gym membership!

We're having a big Caribbean themed party when we get back, hopefully with a Steel Band! (The one I drunkenly stumbled up to and got the details off on NYE!). That's what the bright dresses are for! :D

Yep is rediculous, especially as both OH and i go, so if we decide to carry on going thats an extra £20 a month going out - and i dont think its worth it for the gym. I will have to go back to using my wii fit everyday and running. Just glad we're not on a 12 month contract with the gym!

The party sounds cool Birdie! Are you gonna go all out with the decorations as well?

Dinah, thats rubbish you have to wait so long to get your knee sorted, but like you said you can focus on other stuff in the meantime.

CMD, i would be laying on the sofa and playing on it as much as i could lol, congrats on being so organised!

My first week of being officially unemployed! I feel so useless! Will be posting my CV to the pharmacy today, but still not getting my hopes up. With most other things, the closing dates aren't for a couple of weeks, so trying to stay positive!

So far today i have put 3 loads of washing in, done the dishwasher twice, made homemade soup, prepared tonights dinner, hoovered the whole house, shampooed the whole of downstairs carpet and the bathroom upstairs. I had my nieces and nephew (5, 3 & 2 years old) all weekend, so the house has taken a beating lol. Need to keep myself occupied, so i dont get used to not having a job! :o
