I'd just buy SIL a pair of magic knickers!

Lol I know, problem is they're creating an illusion rather than living how women lived in the 50s. In the 50s they jumped on the improvements which would make their lives easier, spend less time scrubbing floors etc, they didn't say 'oh no, I'm going to stick with my old range and I'll do without an indoor loo thanks, the 1890s were a more balanced time'.

Would like a towel rail putting up as there is very little floor space to stand one, and heated is just nice! But if I can't have it, I won't cry about it :D

I'm just a little worried about them making her overheat... I have visions of her keeling over and announcing to everyone that it's because her knickers are too tight! She's that kind of classy gal! :p

I know, I was watching it thinking I just couldn't be bothered with it all! The 50s style woman probably does more hard work keeping her house clean than her mother did!

Haven't seen that programme but sounds a bit mental!

I would like to wear 1950's/60's dresses though hehe.

We had a heated towel rack in last flat, was lovely but haven't missed it much. We now just have one on back of door that hangs over.

    Well I never! ;)

 That's libel! My quote was taken out of context!!

Viewing went well actually thanks - the house is really nice, newly refurbished, in a lovely place, the right price, landlord seems very nice too and is happy for us to have the cats. So we're going for it. But we have to wait for the agents to send out the forms and get them back in with our wage slips etc so they can do their checks, and all they'll put on the website is 'application submitted', which doesn't fill me with confidence, precumably this means other people could still apply, I'd prefer some sort of guarantee that no-one could do this until we know either way. I'm just convinced that something's going to go wrong now that we've finally found somewhere :o

Still though, hasn't stopped me looking at vintage furniture on ebay that OH will hate :D and doing a spreadsheet :D Going to have to raid the old ISA again I think rather than use my overdraft for the rather large shortfall in my MOF! On reflection, if I'm having to save extra money whilst I'm paying rent and bills, I'd rather it was to go towards replacing savings than paying off debt.

That prog would have been interesting, I often feel like a bit of a Stepford Wife with my baking and sewing, but sadly the cleaning bit lets me down :D

Gosh Birdie, I'm glad your mum doesn't know me, I'd have no self-confidence whatsoever!

You;d be better to use the ISA money, the interest charged on the OD will be a lot more than you'll get on the ISA.

Which village is it in Tete? I'm really curious! PM me if you don't want to say, but I'd love to see the place that finally won you both over!

I have the programme on my computer Tete, if you'd like me to make you a copy just say and I'll burn it onto a DVD for you (well NIM will, I'm not that technical!)

I'll PM you the link, no pics of the inside or anything though. It's not as nice as The Cottage from a few months ago but it's still lovely :) Really trying not to get too excited about it!

I know Martin's mantra about debt and savings, it's just nice to have a little nest egg isn't it? I still will but it's been massively depleted what with the car and now this.

Thanks for the offer, I'll see if I can find it in internetland or on the catch up TV stuff, squillions of things I need to catch up on watching, in particular the first two series of Fringe which I've just got into!

The house is sounding very promising Tete, I hope everything goes smoothly! Good idea about using the ISA money, it seems silly to go into your overdraft when you've got money in savings waiting to be used. If you can't use it to finally live with your OH, what can you use it for?

ETA: Sorry to hear things aren't going too well Flower, hope you're OK?

Gargh damned cat just walked across thte keyboard and refreshed my window!

The cottage was more money Tete, so it would have been a bit flasher :)

Hope you're okay Flower, take care of yourself x

Got some interesting post yesterday. First I got a letter from Alliance & Leicester about those survey fees they refused to refund and I complained about. As a 'gesture of goodwill' they're giving us the full ammount back! So that's £320 in the pot.

Then I opened a letter off Cleveland police telling me my car had been caught doing 36 in a 30 zone 6 days after my operation.... so I called NIM, told him he was an idiot, he was very apologetic and shocked, and he's going to try to go on a speed awareness course rather than take the points and fine - I think it'd be good for him to see why there are speed limits!

I also got a letter from my HR department to see me about arranging for me to return to work possibly in a different role due to my 'excessive recovery period' - !!!!!! off I had surgery 3 weeks ago! I'm on physio and am doing my exercises and the bike 3 times a day and icing my knee hourly - would they like to accomodate that in the office?! So dad has taken the pictures taken of the inside of my knee during surgery with him today as he has a meeting with the head of HR, then when he asks how I am he can whip them out and hopefully shut them up!
