Tete, I assume from your wording your OH has a job he's happy with, but just in case it's of interest there is a graduate surveyor position at Redcar and Cleveland on £24-£26k.

Set up our landline for the new house today, went with the Post Office as its no minimum contract so we can change if we want to, and for £12 a month that includes weekend calls to Irish landlines, which will be nice for NIM. Sadly it was a £120 installation fee!!! Apparently this is because the lady before us had cable, however we couldn't install cable BECAUSE we didn't have a BT landline! And I'm going to have to go over there for a day wait in for them to come and install it all.

Realised I completely forgot to put a radiator or heated towel rail in the new bathroom, NIM is going to speak to the builder see if we can still put one on or if that time has passed. He brought me piccies home at the weekend - its so exciting, there is a skylight and walls in there! The suite gets delivered on Monday, so I'll have to get dropped off there on the morning and sit and wait for it.

Spoke to the DWP this morning about where my sickpay is, apparently I didn't submit the right information in terms of payslips - but they neglected to tell me this. So I've contacted both mine and NIMs HR and requested new copies of all of them.

Have also worked out we're going to be about £1500 short for meeting the wedding costs even with selling the car. Not a clue where I'm going to find that from, don't think I have that much left to sell! Hopefully I'll get a bit of SSP, but things are still going to be really tight. Might have to see if HSBC will extend my credit limit or something, especially as its at 0%. Not ideal, but needs must. It'll work out in the end, just need to give it time and see how it all pans out.

    Hello, how's the knee doing?

Bit of a pay cut for OH that but thanks for thinking of us! He's actually just applied for a different job internally in the Estates dept so we'll see how that goes. He loves his job but is surrounded by nasty and lazy colleagues and it makes him miserable sometimes. I know from experince that nice colleagues can make you look forward to the day even in the worst of jobs.

That's sounds typical what's happened with the DWP - people are so incompetent you just have to chase and chase them, hope you get sorted soon.

How exciting that the house is taking shape already, bet you wish you could be there more often though. We're going to look at a place this afternoon, not getting my hopes up as he doesn't know about the cats yet and also there are no internal pics online so it might be a hovel. OH has managed for the Landlord himself to show us round rather than the agents so then he can see we're nice respectable people and might be more lenient when we hit him wth the cats!

The shortfall you said, is that on top of the planned amount of debt you'll have by the time of the wedding? I've lost track a bit I have to say. To be honest my mind is becoming more relaxed to debt at the moment, maybe because I'm not coming on here so much. My MOF is pitiful but if we like this place today then I'll happily use the OD to pay the fees on it - is that heresy? I think as long as it's for specific things and you can budget to pay it off in a set time then OK it's still debt, but it's managed debt?

Been doing a little tot-up of all the things we're going to need when we move - on top of all the big things like sofas and hoovers, it's all the little things that we're going to need all at once - cleaning products, storecupboard food, mop and bucket etc etc. Going to hit dooyoo a bit I think now that it's a bit quieter, see if I can't get us a 'free' kettle! I know the points system has changed, but I'll reflect that in the effort I put in :D

I know what you mean, I don't really worry since its all at 0% so if it makes it easier for us then so beit, just so long as we don't get to a point where we aren't moving forwards in clearing it it doesn't really matter right now.

Didn't know what he was on, just saw it and thought I'd mention it :)

Aye whenever I move it always seems to be about £600 in 'bits' - its a pain! I've already stocked us up with all the cleaning stuff, need a mop, and food I only buy week to week anyway. It's things like all the utility set up costs which bug me.

Ten days till all wedding invites hopefully should be back - currently have 22/24 English replies, but only 3/17 Irish - apparently Kieran's dad has told people not to rush in returning them - argh! I need to give nmbers to the hotel! Not doing well with evening invites either, only 20/76 on those too.

Haha, I hate Irish people they always make me feel like such an uptight Brit! Surely though they'll need to decide soon themselves as they'll be booking accommodation and flights so they must understand that there's some urgency. Not long now!!! Give us some updates on what you're up to at the mo, how's the veil coming on?

I think I could probably apply from that job from the knowledge I've gained viscerally (is that a word?) and I AM a graduate, just not neccessarily in anything construction-related :D

Yeah I think as Martin says, as long as you know where your debt's come from and aren't looking at tiems on old credit cards bills that you don't even have any more, or seeing that you've been out for posh meals on credit and things, then it's not so bad.

Hello! How silly about forgetting the towel rail! Hope you can still get one put in, it sounds like good progress is being made though, looking forward to seeing photos!

Shame about the sickpay mess up, hope it gets sorted soon, it'll hopefully be backdated when it does get sorted so that'll be a help! You'll quickly clear off the wedding deficit too, it's not that bad, I just hope you can get the 0% credit for it sorted!

I was having a mooch about the net for shoes and saw these which are low enough for you, I know they're probably too weddingy, but you can get them dyed to match your colour scheme and sell them afterwards! There are a few others on the website with the same heel height but there are a lot of pointy toe ones, why they think all brides want pointy toes is beyond me!

Dinah, just a word of warning when you have the land line installed, make sure you have a mobile that is charged with you so can chase if they don't get it done with the time frame and obviously a phone to test the new connection. I had to shout at BT when the installed ours due to the engineer making a huge mistake (see £70 refund)

Dinah, did you order your BM dresses from House of Brides? Have they arrived yet?

Ooh and did anyone see 'Time Warp Wives' on More4 last night? It was quite interesting, there were 3 women who lived like wives from the past, not for a show or anything, they just preferred living in a time warp. One woman dressed and lived like she was from the 30s (although I thought she was a bit of a fraud because she worked at a call centre and drove a modern car! She also had an electric kettle and microwave hidden away from view but she used them because the vintage stuff she had took too long to cook things!), one was a young woman who still lived with her Dad in a flat but dressed and claimed to think like she was from the 40s, think she's just waiting for a man so she can become a fully fledged 1940s housewife and the 'best' one IMO dressed and acted like she was from the 50s. She was like a Stepford Wife! It was so odd. She had an amazing dressing room though, straight from a Doris Day movie. I know a few girlies on here like the idea of being a bit of a retro housewife but these ladies took it a step too far!

Not due to arrive until August 22nd! One of my bridesmaids text yesterday asking when she should be available for dress fittings... haven't quite worked out yet how to say 'If it doesn't fit then it's a diet of fudge or apples for a week'!

I saw that show a few years ago, I think they were all a bit demented tbh, I like old fashioned values, but they were downright delusional sometimes!

    I hate Irish people

    Well I never! ;)

Silly with the towel rail!! If it helps, we have one in our bathroom and never use it. We have a little wooden one we use instead, there is never enough room on the radiator one!

How did the viewing go, Tete? *crosses fingers*

What was the cost of shipping? I'm thinking about getting a white/cream BM dress to change into on the evening and can't find anything I like in normal shops! Not really sure how to word the size issue... my Mum just told SIL that she'd have to lose 7lbs so she could afford to put 5 back on whilst we're away and still fit into the dress! How tactful! :rotfl:

I thought the fact that the women didn't want kids because they wouldn't fit into their lifestyle was really odd, what do they think real women did in the 50s?!

We don't really use our towel rail either, well, OH puts his flannel on it but the other towels go on a rail in the spare room so they'll actually dry! It's still nice to have one in the bathroom in the winter though so you can pop your towel on it whilst you're in the bath so you've got a toasty towel to dry with! :)
