I think watching 4 weddings and spending time on the bridal board has got me thinking people are judging every tiny detail, and I need to remember if they're that shallow their opinion doesn't matter anyway.

I can understand that, but like you say people who are going to sit their rating every aspect of your wedding out of 10 really arent worth the bother. I find it hard to believe that people would actually do things like that - four weddings has a lot to answer for! :rotfl:

I think the bridal boards are worse though - all these people analysing the tiniest detail of the day. Yes they'll notice the dress, maybe the cake, certainly the venue, if there is a band or a dj, but cream or white tealights, or which flowers are in the bouquet - no one except the bride will ever remember these details!

Remember that everyone there is going to be friends and family, they're there for you and as an opportunity to socailise amongst themselves. They're not going to be criticising your flowers or whatever ... unless they're impending Bridezillas themselves, and if so that says a lot more about them than you.

6 a day I used to do. I just knocked them out at about 2-300 words each, as I quickly realised effort was not rewarded!

TBH, I didn't even remember what the Bride's bouquet was like at the wedding, I thought she had white roses but when I saw photos on FB they were red! When she walked in to the room all I noticed was her face because she looked so beautiful! I think the only things that people will really notice of all the 'fluff' is the centerpieces because they'll be sat looking at them for a couple of hours and if they're too big they'll certainly remember them because they'll have spent the whole meal craning their necks to see the person opposite them! Keep it low and classy is my advice!

My friend is a bit of a bridezilla and has such strong opinions on everything wedding related, I'd be a wreck if we were getting married traditionally over here. She hates gerberas because they're 'cheap', balloons are 'tacky', candleabras are 'too footballers wives'... it goes on(and on)! She should really go on 4 weddings, it'd be nice to see people criticise her!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

I hate balloons because they get near candles, lights, windows etc and pop, I jump out my skin throwing my drink everywhere.... not having balloons was a really early decision!

Don't ask don't get. I emailed the ebay brolly guy and asked if he'd do a discount for buying 8 (enough for the bridal party) and he said he'd do them for £80 delivered, saving £23. So I'm ordering them, as if it doesn't rain I can just resell them, in fact I can resell them anyway, £10 each would still make them the cheapest on ebay, and I have peace of mind in case it rains (plus they are cute edwardian style ones anyway, so would look really vintagey and cute in the photos - might use them even if it doesn't rain!). Keep reassuring myself that as my photographers (yes mine, NIM left photographer choice entirely to me!) have a very quirky, retro style the wedding will have some good piccies anyway.

Ordered the giant lawn games last night too. So only need to get the candy bar sweets and some more plates/bowls for the sweets and then most of my little touches are sorted .... except the centerpieces..... if I could find some 6 hour floating candles I think I'd just take the plunge and go with what we really want.

Has anyone else been watching aftermath week on National Geographic? I'm totally hooked!

Good news about getting in touch with the groomsman!

I know it's not what you're after centerpiece wise, but on my picture travels I found this centerpiece idea and thought it was very you and NIM! I know how family orientated you are, so you could use old family photos mixed with the pictures you and NIM have collected since you've been together. I know how on the picture in the link they have them on the table with flowers, but I think if you were to do a bigger one next to a smaller one like they have it would look lovely on their own. Plus if you did the frames in white, they'd tie in with the Luminaries you posted yesterday! (and you could always scatter rose petals around them for an extra something) But I'm getting carried away here, basically I thought they were very sweet!
