Well I called npower (who put me on their standard tarriff), and he told me the previous monthly usage at the property (£85 for both), after the call I came off and did a comparison search who said Scottish Power or E.on would be cheaper (same price) so I looked at quidco and E.on offer £55 cashback, whereas Scottish Power offered a fab £130 - so guess who I went with :D

Also called council tax this morning, and lo and behold they had no recollection of me calling to say the property was empty. She did say the 3 chairs we have in for the builders count as it being furnished and inhabitable - so those need to go in the shed! But I've set that up anyway, I've put it down to pay over 10 months rather than 12, for an extra £16 a month (which won't really be noticed) I'd rather have two months where our budget has £116 free to overpay the morgage - hey, every little helps!

Doesn't look like we're going to get many (well, any really!) people this weekend, it's a shame, but I understand it's not the most exciting way to spend your Saturday. Think we only have 3 or 4 people coming outside my family, with possibly another 2 or 3 from NIMs work.

I have an evening of movies lined up, I intend to try to get about 1metre of my veil sewn (about 6 hours work!). I've suggested to NIM he might want to go over and work on the house, he's not going to enjoy chick flick night!

Thanks for the replies. We've stopped the kidney medication for the time being as the vet said that it shouldn't do much harm in the short term. She seems to be eating better and is more lively and interested in things so definitely looks like it was that that knocked her off course. Not sure how long it might be before the kidney failure gets worse but she is 17 now so probably to be expected really.

I've finally caught up on posts now! Shame about the poor turn-out for the decorating party, Dinah (if it does pan out that way) but at least some people are happy to help out. Hope the exam is ok, Tink!

I've written to them, no response yet though. We've got quite a lot stripped back, hoping we can actually start making the first room (either our room or the guest room) look smart in the next fortnight. Still no quote off the builder though. If we haven't heard from him by Friday then we're going to call a builder my dad knows and ask him to come around and quote, as time is kind of important here.

Yey, I'm happy! Got a MS for my fav Spanish restaurant this weekend, and my fav Mexican next weekend. £75 reimbursement between them, and two great nights out we otherwise wouldn't go to.

Bits of house ending tonight. So far the mirrored wardrobe doors went for £76, the pink marble effect fireplace for £21, and the horrible chandelier thing for £56! Greenhouse and potting shed still to go.

After Cinny's comment yesterday I'm really seriously thinking again about the veggies. The top corner of the garden would be perfect, we wouldn't have to lay it to turf, and I've really been enjoying pottering about in my garden.

Go on keep the greenhouse, fresh veg and salad next year and when you get kids, really expensive stuff is easy to grow:raspberries, strawberries and asparagus are.easy peasy. Plus it is dead relaxing to potter about in the garden on long summer evenings.

Think I might grow stuff, but not keep the greenhouse - its taking up the space where I want to grow things! If I get into it I can always get a smaller one, but this one is pretty huge.

Presumably that's not how you described it in the listing!

You'll need a greenhouse if you want to do toms, but potatoes etc will be grand in the ground (and with NIM to cater for what else would you be growing?!) Dad says he's found a carrot and a potato growing 'wild' in the garden borders today, he's going to leave them and see how they turn out. Just been watching a programme about keeping chickens, now THAT is something I'd like to do!
