I'm taking out shares in bleeding B & Q. Not only are they cheaper than both tool station and screw fix, but over the last fortnight they have lightened my wallet by over £300!!! And we haven't even bought paint yet! Got a load of cream/light gold type colour tester pots yesterday to go with the copper tiles I want but still can't find.... and none of them grab me. So today we're going back to B & Q (to return the strimmer I managed to destroy within 2 hours) and we're going to get some really bold colours, see if those would look better, and just forget the tiles.
I've discovered I can be quite involved in the work at the house so long as it's just stuff done stood up - it's bending thats the issue. So yesterday I spent about 4 hours in the garden pruning this head height ivy which is growing over from next door, and twirlling about with the strimmer. I also put 12 tester paints on the kitchen walls, took down the coving using this awesome 60cm paint scraper we have, and gave the shelves and drawers from the freezer a good scrub. It's really starting to look more like an intentional wreak - have had a few more 'might comes' and two definates for our decorating party/bbq next weekend.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

£300?! Blimey!! That's like, mine and OHs complete furniture budget for when we move out :rotfl:
Sounds like it's all coming along really well though, hope you manage to get a couple more people to the party! And it sounds like the sales of un-wanted bits from the house will help towards the cost of a fair few things. Can't believe you're getting rid of the greenhouse though, I kind of had you down as a grow your own person if I'm honest!
It's a pain about the pay cut - had you factored that into all your budgets and plans?? Fingers crossed you can get some kind of help.0 -
NIM didn't like any of the samples I got - sometimes I genuinely think if I didn't tell him the prices of things he'd like them more - his mother has really hammered into him that if something is cheap or discounted, its automatically trash.
This is the exact problem I'm going to have with OH, he's very much 'you get what you pay for' - I mentioned mozzarellagate in my diary just now, I swear if I'd taken the bloody things out of the packets he'd never have noticed the difference!over the last fortnight they have lightened my wallet by over £300!!! And we haven't even bought paint yet!
Yes but didn't you furnish a whole room for like £35? I like to apply the law of averages with buying stuff. Yes, those shoes are £75, but the dress to go with them was £5 in the sale so you've only spent £40 on average on each thing... is that a bit naughty?
I agree with Cinny I'd have imagined you to grow your own, or NIM.

Lol we had no furniture budget - oops.
I considered the grow your own option, but I don't really have time at the moment, plus we'd quite like the extra garden space.
I hadn't factored the paycut in to be honest. I speak to the job center Wednesday morning, hopefully I'll have a much better idea of what I'll get after that.Tete_en_l'Air wrote: »This is the exact problem I'm going to have with OH, he's very much 'you get what you pay for' - I mentioned mozzarellagate in my diary just now, I swear if I'd taken the bloody things out of the packets he'd never have noticed the difference!

NIM is wierd, sometimes he just can't get his head around cheap, and then today when I told him to get some ready meals for the freezer in the new house to have while he's working there he didn't get fancy ones, in fact he didn't get any that weren't on offer and under £1 each! When I sent him to Tescos to get some bin bags, hand wash and coffee the other day he only got ones on BOGOF - we now have 6 bottles of squash, 4 handwashes, 2 coffees, 40 bin bags etc.
Lol I have got some great furniture bargains, but I think I messed up my sums somewhere as I can't work out where the last £1800 is for the wedding is. Think I need to hit the matched betting and ebay hard.

Morning! Sorry I can't come to the decorating party, that's the only day I've been able to tie OH's Mum down to go shopping as she works most weekends and we've had it planned for ages. Oddly I've had loads of invites for this coming Saturday and I've had to turn them all down!
Urgh, I just went to get some tissue (well, toilet roll stolen from the work loos because I keep forgetting to bring in a box of tissues!) and there was a huge beetle crawling around on the roll! I ran outside with the roll, threw it out the automatic doors... then realised that it looked like I'd just TP'd the carpark so had to run back out to tidy up (whilst giving the beetle a wide berth!). I feel all creepy crawly now!
Bummer about the sick pay running out, you've been lucky really though, we only get 8 weeks full pay then it's just SSP, if OH hadn't have had health insurance we'd have been screwed!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Nice wake up call for a 'Monday' morning Birdie! Eek! Beetles preferable to spiders any day though!
I actually don't even know how much sick pay we get... I really should check these important things before I go signing contracts!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
wow it sounds horrible Birdie!! really not something I would want to see pre-9am!!
I'm back on the revision train for my last exam this week, but as soon as I finish I know I have a maaaaaaaaaassive to do list to make! (Everything I am putting off due to revision and the guilty feeling I get when I do much else!! - Sorry I haven't been posting on here much!!)
It sounds like everyones been really busy! Dinah can you not go back to work but they just change things a bit for you? Like at school when a girl broke their leg etc so every class was rearranged to be on the ground floor? I don't know exactly what you do but surely you must be really bored!? I know youre in pain but if you can paint etc can you not work? Just I dont know!!
(I'm just thinking about you going on to hlf pay! This isn't meant to be shouty or mean! I just read it back and I hope it comes accross properly I'm sorry!)
Tete I've been reading your thread and I really hope youre ok, Aus is a big step and I hope you made sure your OH knows how you feel and everything. I don't think you should go because you will be missed on here but they have the internet in australia yeah...?! - If they do, youre allowed!0 -
Hi Tink. I can't have my knee bent for more than about 20mins, so sitting on a chair at my desk is a no go. They say it isn't possible to find a way for me to have my knee out straight, therefore I have to stay home where I can be comfy. Besides, the surgery is in 3 weeks now, I'm going to be very out of action for a fortnight after it. If the surgery wasn't coming up I'm probably up to doing half days or something if I could get comfy. Back in about 7 weeks anyway.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Hi Tink - Good luck for the last exam!! It's horrible when you get to that stage, you're sick of revising but it's just one last push! It's all good with OH now, thanks for asking
I'm sure they have internet over there, if not I'm not going!

I'll second Tete's good wishes for the exam Tink, not long now till they're all finished and you're free to do something other than look at text books!
Its a shame that your work can't accomodate you Dinah, which makes the reduced pay even more of a bitter pill to swallow since the reason you can't go to work is that they can't make you comfortable... It just doesn't seem very right!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0
