Wow, exciting! Are you doing the work yourselves or getting people in? Ooh, that reminds me I have a planning-related question that I thought you might be able to help withwould we have to apply for planning permission to block up an internal doorway? I feel like we've been kneedeep in DIY for months! We've just had our new worktop fitted but the plumbing for the sink has been a bit tricky and currently drains into a bucket... Not perfect eh?

Is the building listed? If its not then no, go ahead and block up the doorway.
Putting the velux in, moving the walls and putting in upstairs plumbing will be other people, but the laying the flooring and decorating will be all usDebt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

At 4am this morning when I still couldn't sleep I wrote an incredably long post on my annoyingly difficult phone - and then when I pressed 'post' it did the whole 'the message you have entered is too short' rubbish - Argh! It wasn't! It was an hours worth of typing!!!
Anyway, on Friday I had an idea for a product which I think could be reasonably successful and would fill a gap in the market, and on the same day I was approached by a contact looking for ideas he could develop. He is excited by my idea, and I am now trying to come up with some kind of business model/proposal for him to see if it is viable to take it forward as a joint venture. I'm aware it could well fall flat, but if it doesn't this could be a huge turning point for me.
In other news on saturday NIMs dad sent over the house deposit, which will arrive by Wednesday. He got a really good rate, and then rounded the deposit up to a round £26,000, on a 2 parts loan 1 part gift basis. This is really great as its about £3500 more than we were expecting, so we have decided to do the bathroom before moving in, and replace the flooring in some rooms. This still means we need to find about £6000 somehow between now and the wedding, but we feel a lot more optemistic none the less.
The business idea sounds fascinating! Good news about the deposit tooISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0 -
Intriguing business plotting and good news that you'll finally have the deposit, though when did it become mostly a loan rather than a gift??
Poddle you might need building regs rather than planning if blocking the door alters escape routes (:o sorry, I osmose informtion from OH!) (I know osmose isn't really a verb I just like it)

Part of it was always a loan, I'm not entirely sure why, if its for tax reasons or what, but its not a repayable loan unless we move, and even then it could be written off at some point in time.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Thanks, I thought that would be the case - I just had a niggling doubt!
Good luck with the work - I like flooring and decorating! Or, more specifically, I like OH doing the flooring and sharing the decoratingTete_en_l'Air wrote: »Poddle you might need building regs rather than planning if blocking the door alters escape routes (:o sorry, I osmose informtion from OH!) Thanks Tete - osmosing is surely the best way to learn! It won't alter escape routes. We want to block up the door from the lounge to the kitchen as it has been superseded - there are now double french doors next to it into the conservatory and an archway to the kitchen from there, if that makes any sense at all! But basically we'll gain an extra corner in the lounge and a door-sized alcove in the kitchen - hurrah, that's nearly a larder!LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -
As long as you can flee a fire! Sounds lovely, I'd like a conservatory! Yay to the larder too!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

Great news Dinah! You must feel so relieved
Any chance I can have a peek at the house?

That's really great news about the deposit Dinah :j And very kind of Poppa NIM to round it up for you. Must be getting exciting now, I keep on picturing the kitchen in that place when you mention the house. Would be enough to sell it to me!
Exciting about the maybe-product too. Won't ask what it is either, but I'll cross my fingers for you.0
