I think it is the best attitude to have. That way I won't be beating myself up if I have to use lots of pain relief but at the same time I will give it my best shot before I ask for anything as well. Don't get me wrong - if I have to take stuff I will but there are repurcussions to babies, being very drugged and that interfering with breastfeeding and bonding etc.
As I said, I will go in with an open mind, but I would prefer to have my baby as alert as possible.clearmydebts wrote: »I think some women just have a high pain threshold. I don't think I do - I am a wimp when it comes to period pains. However, any midwife will tell you that it is far better to go as natural as possible, for as long as possible. It just depends on how the labour goes and how the baby is positioned.
If you go in with a negative attitude then it makes sense you are more likely to need interventions. I just hope my birth is fairly straightforward but unfortunately everyone is different, I am just hoping for the best
I've been told since I started on blood pressure meds I'd never be giving birth naturally since I'd be a high risk of a stroke, so I might as well have the fairly mild painkillers as well as the smacking great anesthetic. End of the day both me and my brother were C sections, he's a semi pro athlete and I scored high enough on some daft test at school I got an invite to MENSA, we're both insanely close to mum although granted neither of us would breast feed at all, so I really wouldn't worry that its going to have any effect on the baby if painkillers come into it xDebt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I don't mean long lasting effects - I mean immediate ones- such as the baby being too sleepy to latch on straight away and generally bond with the Mum straight away. I would never suggest that painkillers would affect a person for life!!! I wasn't breastfed either & am also close to my Mum. It certainly didn't do me any harm.
At the end of the day your situation is very different to that of a low risk pregnancy so it would be very foolish not to take painkillers if you are at risk of a stroke. But there is a difference between 'sod a natural birth' to having to take painkillers because you could have a stroke.
When I had to go for a re-scan there was a chance that I might have has to have a c-section and of course I would have gone for it. Luckily the re-scan was okay but if you have a low risk pregnancy I still think it is better to go in with an open outlook rather than 'give me all the drugs' before the contractions even begin.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Well I had a bit of a money realisation yesterday as we did the filing - our 50% deposit for the wedding venue is due on the 3rd March... and our regular savers don't release the money until the 21st. So I need to have cleared the credit card by then simply so I can put the deposit on it for 3 weeks until the saver matures. I don't know exactly how much it will be since we haven't picked a menu, or obviously confirmed a guest list etc so I've emailed our wedding coordinator to ask.
In that vein I've started Dooyooing again, this evening we are going to list things on ebay, NIM will be restarting the surveys at lunch time, and I am going to try to finish clearing my old phone as thats another £100 right there.
As regards finding a solicitor and surveyor, I'm going to ask one of my families friends this evening if he knows anyone, he's a senior partner in a law firm here, and while he doesn't do conveyancing, he will probably know someone who does.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Greg is the Clio! He's a dark blue though, so pretty! Sent my bonds off on Saturday so hoping they've cleared by the end of the week & he'll be mine at the weekend! Driving lessons are going really well, got up to 3rd gear yesterday and did lots of maneuvers. Did stall alot but I think that's a given!
Lara - So sorry to hear about your friend. I hope you're okay. Sending big hugs xx
Sounds like you're still doing seriously well with the credit card Dinah! Utter pain about the money from the savings not coming out when you need it, but at least you know you'll be able to pay the deposit off quickly before the end of the month.
I'm back on the debt pony too. Nothing major that can't be sorted by my wages though, spent on my credit card for OHs Valentines present & had to buy my new laptop on credit too, but I've got 6 months interest free to save up for the latter so it's easily done!
Hope everyone had a nice weekend xx0 -
Morning all *yawn* I'm getting so bad at getting up at the moment, all I want to do is stay in bed all day!
Tete, I can't afford to do fancy invites for all of our 'Rainy English Do' guests, I'll just be getting something printed up on vista print or similar as OH is planning on inviting about 100 people! Hope you enjoy your short week, when's your birthday?
Lara, I'm sorry to hear about your friend from the book club, it's such a shame. Hope you're feeling better today.
CMD, it sounds like you're really prepared for the baby now, you've got a good outlook on giving birth- although I'd be terrified and begging for the drugs before the first contraction is over! I hope I'll be a little more hardy by the time I actually have babies! I always think about Look Who's Talking when I think of having drugs in childbirth, when he's all spaced out and waving his hand around and it's leaving a trail behind it, hehe!
Dinah, good luck on the money front with the deposit! Roughly how much do you think it'll be? Have you got other bits sorted, like flowers and cars? Any more dress shopping planned? I went to an outlet shop on Saturday with my SIL and tried a pretty dress on (this one actually), it was only £99 and fit OK, just needed a bit pulling in around the bust (as every dress does, darn my small chest!) but I accidentally 'ruined' it! There was a table in the middle of the shop with various decorations on and there was a big martini glass with pink 'marbles' in that turned out to be funny gel balls and poking out was a tropical looking bouquet of silk flowers. I picked it up to show SIL and brushed the stem of the bouquet to the dress that I had on and it left a pink mark on it! I can't believe it! The mark should come out but I was gutted that I'd done it! Who uses wierd pink gel things as decoration in a room full of white dresses anyway?
I'm not sure that the dress was The One anyway. When I had it on I was thinking, looks good, price is good... makes sense. But I wasn't desperate to keep it on and I didn't feel like a beautiful blushing bride when I was wearing it so something must have been wrong. I was talking to a friend and she was gushing about her dress, saying she grins whenever she thinks about hers... I can't really imagine feeling like that! I'm quite detached from the emotional thing of getting married, think it's to do with my wiring (the whole autism thing I reckon, I don't quite feel things as I should a lot of the time, quite annoying really, why can't I gush and cry over the perfect dress?!)
It's exciting about Greg Cinny! I really do love that name for a car, it suits you if that makes sense! Glad you're enjoying lessons too! Don't worry about stalling, it takes a bit of getting used to when you're stopping and starting a lot! It'll be second nature soon, I don't even think when I drive now!
Wendz, have you got your new car now?Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Never knew you were autistic Birdie, you don't come across that way at all. My godson is autistic so its a subject I'm very familiar with.
The 50% deposit should be in the region of £3000, haven't sorted anything else no - eventually I'll get to it! Going to a shop in York to try on dresses next week.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

It'll be second nature soon, I don't even think when I drive now!
When me and Rich were driving yesterday I was just looking at his feet everytime we stopped/started thinking 'How does he do it?!' but then he told me off for staring at him.
That dress is really pretty Birdie, sounds like something I'd do getting a mark on it! Tbf, I'd be worried if you were crying over the bootifulness of a dress! (Unless, of course, it's over the beauty of my tamponesq wedding dress.) Did you buy the dress, or slowly side step out of the shop after spilling the pink-goo on it?
Ohh, and remember the LittlePink44 saga?? I logged onto my YT channel (I follow her on there!) And she'd posted a bunch of videos of her lush 'Stash' (3 videos about 7/8mins long! She had so much!) and some 'haul' videos.. so I'm guessing she's fallen off the wagon. Can't believe how much lush stuff she had though, a little storage unit, 3 baskets, a big plastic tub & loads of hat boxes with loads stuff crammed in! And at the end of one of the videos she said something like 'So you know, I bought all this with money I had. I didn't go crazy with a credit card, I don't have one!'0
