Hi IF!!

Hi Floozie,
Sorry about the tight month. Good that your OH wants to get a worthwhile qualification but can he put something towards it? Am I right in thinking that he has £200 a month pocket money which was sorted when he smoked but that he has now given up? Seems unfair to me that you have no pocket money and feel guilty for buying a chocolate bar when you do so much around the house as well as working full time and then end up subbing your OH, and not just for this.

I've given up trying to talk to him about his pocket money. To be honest as long as he makes his £200 last and doesn't ask me for any more through the month that'll make me happy as I know then what I have leftover is mine. Sometimes I do get really !!!!ed off though as even if we shared the £200 that he gets at the moment and it was mine to spend all on myself, it would feel like loads and loads.
He's back smoking now, by the way!:mad:Start Date: 27/11/2010

LOL - good idea! trouble is I've banged on that much about having to use the bus, and even put it on my facebook status that I'd be too scared to try and do this (I think you know who my employers are!)Start Date: 27/11/2010

Days to payday: 25
Money in bank : £330.21 + £107.91
Money in purse: £20.00
Grand Total: £350.21+ 107.91
Money spent since last update: £0.00 - Woohoo - non spend day
Grocery budget: £280.00 / £206.76 remaining
Petrol Budget: £110.00 / £55.00 remaining
Everything else budget: £147.00 / £88.45 remaining
One poll - 2 more surveys, balance is £5.15.
Mystery shopping - they must have taken my word for it, as Saturday's shop is showing as pending for payment on 10th Feb.
Got a letter from the electric company further to yesterday's gas. I saw the "Yearly payment review letter and the words "we need to change your payment" and my heart sank until I read it and saw they're amending it from £50 per month to £32.00 per month!!! I'm really pleased about that, although I wonder now whether that's a drop of too much, I don't want to end up in debit with them again.
DH is going to enrol at college tonight so he's taken the cheque book with him. I think I will pay for that out of my savings (£1136.50) and I shouldn't then go in the red on the current account.
Sods law, DH now has also been allocated a dentist. They are rarer than hen's teeth up here (NHS) so he's had to make an appointment for a cheque up, but I know as well as the check up fee he is bound to need some work doing
Last night's frugal tea was Fish Pie, made with value prawns, value haddock, peas, sweetcorn, leftover veg, red onion and cheese sauce. There was enough for 4 portions and another 2 portions for tea tonight
Also saved money by scoffing birthday goodies that had been brought in, which meant I didn't need to eat my tin of soup (although not good for my waistline).
I've cancelled my WW subscription today although I haven't been going, but sods law the money was taken yesterday and I'm not sure if that will get refunded, or whether I'll have membership until the month is up.
Started reading this last night, which is another library book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0718149866/ref=s9_simi_gw_s1_p14_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=1HXD475N12SWE7D6REQM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467198433&pf_rd_i=468294Start Date: 27/11/2010

Well done IF, you're doing so well.
Good news about the gas bills. Be sure to keep doing customer readings then you'll keep track of whether you're paying enough.
I tend to agree with verbatim that your OH should try to use some of his 'pocket money' to pay for his course. Have you tried writing out a budget in BIG LETTERS so that he can see how little you spend on yourself compared with him. Is he aware how much of the family's 'disposable income' goes to him?0 -
Sometimes you have to wonder if men inhabit the same stratosphere as the rest of us. Assume the course is something truly spectacular and includes the exam fees as it sounds hugely expensive for plumbing for imbiciles or DIY for ladies (v. popular here as the mums like to drool over the tutor).Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Good idea about reading the meter myself regularly, I'll set up a little book. In fact - I could just note it in here!
And yes, I have tried begging him to budget until I am blue in the face. He thinks £x for a bottle of wine, £x for cigarettes x 30, yep that's sorted, but then he forgets about the other spends he has! Anyway I am gonna be really tough from now on and not cave into his beggings anymore.
The course he is doing is an IT qualification called a CCNA and all in all if he completes it in two years it will have cost £1000 + exams.Start Date: 27/11/2010

*as You will see from the above I have bought myself a charm bracelet. I have been admiring my colleague's for weeks and I decided I 'deserved one'. I was egged on by another colleague who pointed out DH's £200 per month pocket money to spend on whatever he likes, the fact he has the car all the time and I have to use public transport, and the fact I'm having to find £65 per month for his college course and the fact that I haven't bought myself anything since before Christmas, feeling guilty about buying chocolate bars etc...I don't have any expensive jewellery (not that £24 is expensive) and I like bracelets, it can be worn every day with any outfit, and charms are only £3.50 each for it and I was won over. And I do love it! I am feeling that I have to justify the purchase but I certainly don't feel guilty or bad about myself.
I have only left myself with £60+ 'everything else' money, but I'm sure I can come in way, way under budget for groceries if I try hard.
I already have enough meat in the freezer for 7 days which takes me to next Saturday (having to buy a few bits inbetween) so I estimate spending no more than £25 this week on groceries, which then leaves me £160 for a fortnight's shopping - definitely do able.
Frugal tea tonight - the last portion of fish pie!!!
PS - I applied for a Virgin card last night but got knocked back.
PPS - what are your thoughts on me applying to open a Halifax bank account for the £5 rewards. I'd keep Natwest as the bills account, and maybe use the Halifax as the 'everything else' account OR just transfer £1000 straight in and out again each month and keep the HSBC as my every day account.Start Date: 27/11/2010
