Whooo hooooo.... although I wouldn't have had a clue had you not announced it on here. I banished myself from Facebook over a month ago after a humungous barney about the amount of time I was spending Fronteering which incidentally wasn't much at all as it took OH a week to notice that I'd done it in the first place.

    Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks guys! Okay, I'll give you facebookers the benefit of the doubt.

Got my job offer letter today, which I was a bit disappointed about, as they only give 20 days per year holiday, which is a big drop for me. I currently get 30 days per year plus as much flexi as I can make up, along with the fact that I currently work 6-2 so going from that, to a working day of 0930-1730 feels like it will be really hard going? WHat do you think? I keep telling myself that the real world isn't like the public sector and I have just been spoilt. There's no mention of the holidays going up after, say, 5 years either. Also, they only pay 32 hours sick pay per year (4 days!) and although I have only had 1 day off sick in three years, I'm scared that I will suddenly become sick and have no cushion to fall back on.

However on the other hand, it's a job that I will find interesting (which is important to me), it's a job with lots of transferrable skills (secretarial), it's in my home town (albeit 8 miles away) and they have said they will be flexible if I need it, it pays less than I get BUT it's something I can manage on whereas all the ordinary admin jobs coming up are around £3-5k less than this job is offering me, which I couldn't manage on). they do a profit share (although I don't know how much that is to be, but a lump sum would be nice once a year). I guess I could always stay until the economic climate is better and then try move back into the public sector....

She was desperate for me to start ASAP when I spoke to her today but I had to say I wasn't prepared to give in my notice til my CRB check came through so I'll have a start date 4 weeks after she lets me know it's come back. So could be late December / early Jan,.

20 days holiday is perfectly normal in the real world assuming it also entitles you to weekends and bank holidays off as standard.

Fingers crossed that in the meantime you get made redundant and can leave with a v. large wodge of cash in your pocket and a job to go to.

Well done F. Perhaps the interest and the yearly profit share will help make up the the shortfall in pay if not in hols. Hope you don't lose out on the redundancy pay. It's good to be wanted so much by a new employer too!

  • Hi IF!!

Your holiday will be 20 days + all public holidays, giving you a total of 28 per year.

Just a thought regarding handing your notice in / redundancy, could you approach them for voluntary reduncancy and negotiated package. If you hand in your notice, then you'll prob/poss miss out on any extra pennies, but if you volunteer yourself for redundancy then you may get some extra pennies and they may save some pennies by not paying out a full redundancy package.

Just a thought - apologies if I am way off target!!
