  • Hi, thought I could have a go at this. I have a bookcase full of cookery books and got 5 new ones for Christmas, DD picked a recipe from Levi Roots book to try today, I only need to buy a couple of extra spices as we have plenty meat in the freezer. Will need to be very frugal this month as we are on a very tight budget so may only manage a couple of new recipes this month but aim for at least 1 a week from next month.

LOL I know, me neither (my favourites are nigel slater, HFW, and rick stein! Oh and Rachel Allen and I am not that way inclined... )

I love Rachel Allen too, and I'm not that way inclined either :rotfl: Possibly the Irishness helps as I'm Irish too and am rather homesick (not least for Irish food).

I've just recently developed a little crush on James Martin. He's lovely, he can come round and feed me any time he likes.

Hmm I'm still not sure re James Martin, doesn't tickle my fancy (PLEASE DON'T LYNCH ME :o:eek:)
Although I do admit to a slight crush on HFW, its his ideals rather than his looks I think!!:o:o

I'm Irish too and one of my 1st TV cookery programmes I saw was Darina Allen, and love Rachel Allens TV shows, makes me homesick when she talks of cream flour and bread soda :D

I HATE James Martin! I always quite liked him but I saw him cooking live at a food show and it totally put me off.....it was a marquee full of people, many of them old ladies or children and he swore constantly the whole way through. Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against swearing when the time and place is right (I work on a steelworks so its every other word here!) but it just didn't suit that situation. ALso his food hygiene standards were terrible!!!! He just cam across as being totally up himself and thinking he was dead clever.....idiot man lol!!!

I'd love to join in this challenge, it's something I have been thinking about doing for weeks as I have thirty odd years worth of cookery books and clippings, most of which I have never used.

Don't know whether I can manage something different every week, but certainly aiming for something new at least once a month, hopefully every fortnight.

I am also trying to encourage dd to cook more - they seem to live on takeaways. I bought her Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food and she has managed the mince and onion pie already which was delicious.

Great to see so many [STRIKE]fit pictures[/STRIKE] like minded cookery book wasters:D:D

Though i have to say ATW ......NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:rotfl:

So why dont we all post a Week 1 challenge by choosing at least one thing we are going to have a go at. For me this is equally about trying new ingredients as it is trying different recipes with my same old same old stuff. (I keep Costco in business with my mince purchases:rolleyes:) So having had a leisurly browse this week I am going down the fish route and will be trying tuna and possibly a seafood chowder depending on what fish i can get hold of. I will put the recipes up as i do them and then report back on the results. Oh and im going to do the corn cakes too yum yum thanks misskool:T

    My tastebuds are very excited:D
