Quite a few fly by the seat of my pants recipes have been made this month. I
Tried to find this thread but my eyes were playing silly whatsits due to reading AND distance specs having been left in Brum.
Potato fritters like I remember in the chip shop as a nipper - failed but realised I needed my deep fat fryer to regulate the temperature and a tempura (sp) type batter to make them crispy.
Pork sage and apple fritters - a bit bland but definately tweekable.
Lamb and mint cakes for tea tonight (guess who likes to use up the last bits from a sunday roast)
Celariac & potato top went on the fish pies made on Saturday - a leek got added to the left over and baked as a side dish for yesterdays roast.
Salmon Fish cakes are next week, made with a humungus pack of meaty salmon trimmings from Mr M's yesterday
Sweetcorn fritters went with the steak on Saturday - Half cornflour and half ordinary works much better. It matters not if you try and fail, and fail and try again; But it matters much if you try and fail, and fail to try again.

Didn't manage to do a new recipe last week, but this week I cooked a new pasta dish http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1252/farfalle-with-chicken-asparagus-and-pancetta . Had a craving for asparagus so thought this would hit the spot
It was nice, although maybe a little on the bland side. Does anyone else finding trying new recipes out can be rather expensive or do you all look for fairly cheap ones? I'm currently choosing based on what type of foods I haven't eaten for a while and fancy having again, but maybe I need to start looking at cost as well!

I cooked lamb shanks for the first time yesterday. DH and I really enjoyed them, the kids didn't so that will be a cheaper meal next time around.
Next week I'm going to do shoulder of pork (rolled) I've never done that before either. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

Made Lemongrass ice cream yesterday - very easy and pleasant taste, not overly lemony but certainly different.
Also made Macaroons for the first time.
Since my last post have also made Cauliflower Keema out of my favourite curry book of the moment...it was lovely, quite spicy though but very cheap as only cauli (cheap in L*dl) and 4 oz frozen peas and onion plus spices.
The ham cooked in cola in the slow cooker was lovely, will do that one again.0 -
I made Cream of Wild Garlic soup for the first time - it was yummy and the Wild Garlic was free as I foraged for that!0

I made rice and beans last night for the first time and it was delicious. I read several receipes and then made my own concotion. I addded coconut milk, chicken stock sweet chilli sauce, cayenne, an onion, red and yellow pepper along with kidney beans and chick peas. It is definately going to be a new staple.
ETA oh and a couple of rashers of bacon. Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

Lovely meal tonight that I've never made before:
Whole pork tenderloin cut into thick slices, with a layer of stuffing and thinly sliced apple on the top of each. Served with cabbage, carrots, potatoes and gravy. Lovely, would definitely recommend0
