Hi EE, I've been thinking about you and hope you are all better after the illness and are able to have a nice Christmas. Take care of yourself. X
    I Believe.....
That it isn't always enough, to be forgiven by others.
Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.

happiness isn't achieved by getting extra things,
but by getting rid of the things that make you unhappy

Merry Xmas Everyone!!! (Well Happy Boxing Day!!)

Things are still not great in the Elephant household - lets start with some positives:

We managed to collect DS from Uni and get back home safely.
We managed to attend a big family meal to celebrate DS' 21st
We managed to get to the supermarket to buy food before Xmas
I managed to cook Xmas dinner and made desserts
    DS is not ill

    :j:T:j:T

The not so good is that DH is still poorly and still passing out (but not every time he coughs) and the GP has mentioned whooping cough - bloods were taken last week and results were due in at the end of the week but were not back on Friday, hopefully will be back tomorrow.

My cough has got worse and I decided to read all about whooping cough and it sounds scarily like what we have so I will be calling my own GP tomorrow and asking for blood tests and antibiotics.

I took all of last week off sick from work as I didn't want to spread what ever it is I have (before we knew about the potential for whooping cough).

DD is also poorly, she started with a sore throat but then got to the point of not being able to swallow so took her to the GP. She has really bad tonsillitis and has antibiotics, she has swollen gums and no end of mouth ulcers so has struggled to eat for over a week. I resorted to milkshakes made with bananas and milk and thought that those 2 things should contain a lot of her essential vitamins and minerals.

Due to the above relative opted not to come to us for Xmas day - I felt guilty but would feel more guilty if he caught what we have. I did get DS to take him in 2 roast dinners, 2 homemade desserts and some home made mince pies so at least he had some Xmas dinner.

We are attempting to venture out today to our traditional family boxing day bingo session - will only stay a few hours and DH and I will keep away from everyone else and will wear face masks:rotfl:

Have been thinking about next year a lot and I so need to get my finances sorted - we massively overspent at Xmas and some things have gone on the credit card.
I may spend the rest of the morning getting on top of the budget ready for a new year with new plans.
  • Get well soon everyone Xx

Sorry to hear you're all poorly (apart from DS). Hopefully once the antibiotics kick in you'll all be on the mend.

Take care and enjoy your bingo xx
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Afternoon EE,

Gosh you all sound so unwell (apart from DS), I really hope you start to feel better soon xx

  • Thanks everyone for your messages.

DH and I are still unwell. DD is much better but has antibiotics to finish still.

DH's blood tests have been misplaced so we have been back for more today - I spoke to my own GP today and he thinks I just have the winter cough which is doing the rounds so I have to wait for DH's results and if he has whooping cough they will test me for it.

It was my birthday yesterday and my bestie popped round with presents for xmas/birthday etc and also brought a care package filled with loads of fruit/lemsips/Vit c tablets etc - she is just fab!!!

I have been looking at the finances since Boxing Day and the debt on the credit card from xmas spending has annoyed me so I have taken money from DH and my regular savers and paid the xmas debt off. Its no good earning 2.5% on savings if you are being charged 24.9% on the debt.
I feel quite relieved now and will be going in to the New Year with my old Barclaycard being paid off at £5pm and the other credit card debt I mentioned a few weeks ago that is on 0%.

I have redone the budget and DH and I will each have to put more into the bill account each month and any left over can go towards the credit card debt.

My plan is still for him to leave but I can't imagine it will be quick and it has not been discussed again since I mentioned it earlier this month due to everything else that has been going on.
The credit card debt is partly his responsibility and if he leaves next month he wouldn't pay it so I will stealthy get it paid off from the bill account without him realising.

I feel much better now I have sorted all that out plus I have opened a Kids Regular Saver for DD in which I will save the money for Xmas (more than what I saved this year) and then by next Xmas there will be no need to use the credit card.

Just need to think about my goals for next year and all the little things I need to do to make some extra money like surveys etc and how I am going to fit them in with my busy life.
