Don't pay £60 for a no-name stereo - I got a Pioneer one with USB, aux in etc for £58 from Argos.

Thanks Joel, I also need a cover, £15 from halfords (for a piece of plastic)

so will do as you suggest :D

your post makes total sense. :T

I bought mine ebay. I think the seller was east anglian car something or other. If you look at the halford site they give you the part numbers for both the piece of plastic and also the connecters you need.

Throw those into ebay and plenty of options - The one I bought had the 2 bits halfords want £30+ for but also came with the clips to remove the stereo and an adapter for the aerial as well. Arrived 3 days after purchase (and that was over xmas)

Appreciate and understand what everyone else is saying about named brands but its similar to the old Dell deal of the month V Building your own PC debate.

Its always going to be cheaper and more suitable to build it yourself but most people dont know how/cant be bothered/ or like to know its all warrantied and someone elses problem if it goes wrong.

    Its horses for courses.

I will say one thing about Halfords, which happened to me recently,if they or anyone else within 7 days and a 20 mile radius put the price down, they will refund the difference.

They are really no different from most retailers who jack their prices up and then pretend there`s "X" amount off in a sale.
Asda are notorious for jacking prices up and then having a "rollback".

They once had the original T-cut for £10.99.... ASDA had it for £2.99.

I would never set foot in halfords.

well more fool you then. as a service engineer i use thier tools (and a mix of other makes) but ive always found thier tools very good value for money and considering the pro stuff has a lifetime warranty its unbeatable. ive bought more expensive tools and broken them and had no end of trouble getting refunds, with the one spanner i broke at halfords they replaced it with no hassle at all.

admitedly some of thier stuff is over priced, but thats up to you to shop around and find the best prices.
thier car parts are also of a good quality, and thier batteries are good too, but the prices are only decent when your using a trade card for these which brings them down nearer motor factor prices.

i also find halfords very convenient, they are open on sundays and theres one in most towns.

    Hardly.

They have a clear monopoly in the motoring market and with that comes an exceptionally high price mark up.

Youd have to be a mug to go in there and buy apparently specialised items like paintwork sandpaper (£7) or the stereo harnesses (£16) when you could simply go into B&Q or an electrical retialer and get them 70% cheaper.

You pay an idiot tax to shop halfords as like you say, its open on Sundays.

they don't have any kind of monopoly, there are other large motoring stores open on sundays, like motorworld for example.
other independant motor factors are open monday - friday (some on saturdays, they also have the option to open on sundays to if they wish) but if you need something on a sunday when nowhere else is open then thats up to you to pay for it in halfords. nobody is focing you to buy it from them there and then.
they really don't use hard sell tactics in halfords its your choice.

and im sorry but halfords do sell some things at a very good price in return for good quality item.

the price you've quoted for the sandpaper im sure would be offered with a very good discount on the trade card. to bring it into line with other motor factors.
