dodgy prices Halfords?

Options
Was going to buy a cd player to install, seemed a good deal at the time (sale) but refrained from doing so.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_548107_langId_-1_categoryId_165474?cm_mmc=E-Mail-_-Dec09Wk5-_-SALE-3112-HTML-_-sendaicd889

Have a look at the price changes; (current price is now 59.99)

  • £62.99 between 16/12/09 and 23/12/09 inclusive
  • £69.99 between 13/10/09 and 24/12/09 inclusive
  • £69.99 between 13/10/09 and 16/12/09 inclusive
  • £139.99 between 15/09/09 and 12/10/09 inclusive

There seems to be a new "sale" every week. What im wondering is it just a sucker sale and I could get this cd radio or equivalent elsewhere at about the same price?

It makes out it is a massive saving (from £140 quid) but surely that must just be fool to pay at that price? someone please explain if halfords is good value im new to using them :)

Commonly known in (motoring) circles I move in as:
    • HellFrauds
    • HalFwits
    • HalFrauds
    Etc etc etc.

Very overpriced - most items they sell can be obtained from a motor factor for substantially less (in the case of ICE you are far better looking online)

As has been said though, for some bits the convenience is worth it (i.e. when the car fails its MOT at 5pm and you want it back in the garage first thing in the morning - I did this once when he failed the car on brake discs being a bit thin and a dodgy wheel bearing)
Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male:

  • try ebay for a stereo, your sure to find something on there, ive bought a few second hand units and theyve all been fine, but there is a good selection of new units aswell.

halfords are also offering a large halfords advanced socket set for £89, reduced from £189. i wonder if they will do trade on it aswell?
    ...work permit granted!
  • Got my last radio from pixima as it was the cheapest at the time but may not be for all brands.

The normal price for that radio is £69.99. Halfords are now as bad as DFS for their "Half Price" sales.

The socket set should be on trade for about £85, it was never really £189, well it was for a short period, just another "Better Than Half Price" con.

    I bought that radio :D

I saw it when it was £139, and then when it was £69 but when it went £59 with free fitting I thought go for it.

Ok its not a brand name but its got 30+ reviews of which vast majority are very very positive and they will fit it for free.

What the OP hasnt spotted is the best bit - To fit this on a focus requires a plastic cover, and a wire converter. Halfords price £18 each.

Internet price £7 for the pair delivered.

I think its a decent deal for people looking for a cheap stereo that will handle their ipod. Not everyone wants to fit these so free fitting is useful.

These guys have oveheads in running the massive stores, carrying stock, and employing the monkeys working for them. They have to make a profit.

Most shops use sale prices in this way. They only do it because people are too lazy or stupid to do their research or shop around. Cant blame the shops for that.
