my husband has also found that hitting metal things rather than touching them gingerly helps - he thinks part of the problem with the shocks is the anticipation...plus if you whack your hand into something you kind of expect it to hurt so you don't notice the shock so much. :)

As for nosebleeds, saline nasal spray can really help with the dryness in Vegas...yes, it's kind of gross, but it does work.

I have tried the hitting method, doesnt seem to make any difference, \I have found the best method is to let someone else call the lift, open the doors for you etc:j
One of the worst problems is touching the video screens of the slots, does anyone know if they make gloves made of dryer sheets??;)

So got the static mostly under control, now just have to find something for the nosebleeds...lol

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this problem! Every time I go, I suffer and my husband doesn't so he thinks I'm a weirdo!!

    Hi Steff -

The room was the big thing for us - it was really so great. The casino is smaller and more quiet - overall Encore is probably a bit more sedate than Wynn (though Wynn isn't necessarily rockin', either)...Plus because it's newer it's all nice and shiney and clean. And Wynn is a short walk away.

The only places we've eaten are the buffet as mentioned and Sugar and Ice (may it rest in peace)...I'm sure we'll try the pizza place they put in the Sugar and Ice spot one day, but I'm still sad - I really liked that place...and would probably never have tried it if I hadn't heard about it here.

    Morning :)
Thanks for response. I think I am nearly decided that it is going to be an Encore stay for us this year!!

OH NO!!!! The fact that Sugar & Ice is gone is AWFUL. The news must have passed me by! That was one of my favourite places in Vegas and I was one of the people on this thread that championed it. VERY sad that its gone! A visit there was always on our list of things to definately do. Guess we will have to go have a pizza outside by the waterfalls instead!

    Thanks for the warning!

Re the static. I just flick Tracy on the back of the neck before touching anything metal. It discharges the shock and I get a laugh at the same time, double bubble:D
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I've just filled in my ESTA (using the link on page 1, of course). Authorisation pending..... I was surprised that my arrival date was not required. Hope they let us in or the honeymoon is in ruins :rotfl:

    Hi,

I am going to Vegas from the 1st Feb to the 12th Feb (12 days) with a few guys from college and 2 lecturers to make a documentary for our course.

My question is regarding car hire. We are planning to hire a People Carrier / Mini Van as there are 6 of us going, as well as our equipment. We would be hiring the vehicle for the full 12 days. However, only two of us going can drive, and both are under 25 (we are both 23).

Can anyone recommend a website for hiring a car? I know some of them fully include the Young Drivers Surcharge, but most require you to pay it on arrival at the Hire company. I am reading that this around $25 a day, so $300 extra for the 12 days, is that about right?

Also, can anyone recommend a car? For example, is it better to pay a bit more for a people carrier that can do more miles to the gallon?

Finally, most of the sites I have looked at include things such as Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Damage Waiver etc. I assume that should I be in an accident, I would have to pay an excess?

Any tips / advice / experiences will be much appreciated.

    Thanks for reading :)

    Hi flawless,

I would look at carhire3000. They covers all the waivers etc, nothing is hidden. They have a UK call centre so you can for free to ask any questions about the rental. You can also cancel without any penalty if your plans change...

I'd done a quick search for your dates with the 1st driver at age 23. It doesn't specifically reference the under 25 request, but you can call them free on 0800 358 7707 and they'll advise if anything extra needs to be paid....

The quote was £421.65 for an 8 seater Toyota Sienner (or similar) incl a tank of fuel and any additional drivers over 25.

They've been really helpful for me when I've used them, so worth the free phone call.... I'm pretty sure for my last trip, there was no excesses should we have had a bump etc. Give them a call :)

    Thanks for the respone :)

I'm now looking at a quote from Carehire 3000 for a Chevrolet Uplander, for £487 for the trip, which includes, and I quote from the website:

Young Driver Premium Package: Price includes young driver surcharge for drivers aged between 21 - 24 yrs, additional drivers over 21 & the initial tank of fuel

So looking at that, I'd be able to have an extra driver who is 23, and would not have to pay anything extra when I pick up the car, including the young drivers surcharge, correct?

The £487 would be the total amount payable?

Has anyone booked anything through Carehire 3000 before using this package?

    Thanks

Unfortunately, I'm too old for their young drivers (boo) but they are excellent at keeping all info up front. I'd agree with you, but I'd make a quick call just to be 100% sure :)
