I do not think anyone would say Trop is better than the MGM:eek:
You really have to read between the lines on TA especially where Vegas is concerned

I have booked the trop based on the reviews on tripadvisor. I dont expect it to be as good as the other hotels I considered (PH towers & Trump) but in the case of PH it was a third of the price and it has a casino. So I think it depends on what you are after.
  • I was set on the MGM but the price keeps going up, trying to keep it £800 each or under for 6 nights including direct london flights Oct half term!

The Tropicana looks basic but the refurb makes the rooms look lovely, its number 25 on tripadvisor and i've been reading through the reviews over the past few days.

Failing that was looking at the Stratoshpere or Excalibur but the reviews aren't great?

Tropicana may be better having had the refurbished rooms. I'd also factor in time walking from room, through casino and out to street...this can add up to quite a lot of your time walking just to get somewhere.

Found this out when we stayed at the MGM last year, took flipping ages to get anywhere and parking the car and walking the distance from car park to room took a very long time. In fact some days it was quicker and easier to park in Tropicana car park rather than MGM.

But to get to the same point on the strip from a room at MGM is still going to be 10 minutes sooner than getting there from the Trop. unless you are going south, but then again what is south of the Trop?
In it's favour, the Trop does have a good vibe around the pool, but then you don't have to be staying there to get in:D
Anyway, it's way too early to be booking hotels for next October. I usually only start looking for deals about 3 months out, you will definatly get something cheaper next year.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I certainly wouldn't stay at the Tropicana ahead of MGM -unless I wanted to be South Strip-which most first and second time visitors don't. Even with the refurb it isn't as nice IMO.

I agree if you book now you'll see much lower prices later so if you must book *something* now -make sure it's refundable as you will definitely find a better deal closer (3/4 months ahead) to the time.

Strat is too far from centre Strip and there are nicer hotels than Excaliber too.

Indeed. If I went with the kids and the missus, I wouldnt put us all in the Venetian, even though I love that hotel.

Strat is wayyyyyyyy out of where you want to be. Excalibur....fine for trip with kids IMHO. Remember Trop refurb rooms arent likely to be the cheapest available rooms. Unless theres something special going on in Vegas, you can usually get MGM for $55 a night, but as said before, you need to wait a few months before booking.
