October , NovemberThe day has come and we fly tomorrow!! Going Gatwick direct with Virgin which made me nervous given everyone's reports but luckily through a contact we have been upgraded both ways for economy fare so not too worried now!
Got 4 days in Excalibur (not too keen on that but it's a lads trip so location and cost won over), then a night at the Canyon and then back for 2 nights at Mandalay Bay.
Can anyone recommend any good nightclubs??0 -
JuneYes most hotels put a hold on your credit card regardless of whether you have booked through a third party. However you can put down a cash deposit if you prefer which you will get back when you check out.
Alternatively you can ask them to remove the ability to charge to your room and some hotels will not put a hold on the card.
The hold should only affect you if you have a very low credit limit and intend maxing out the card while you are there.
We use the credit card to pay for everything bar gambling and tips and I have never even noticed the hold although I know it happens.
Me and my partner dont use credit cards, we both have Visa Debit cards... I can understand a hold being placed, but didnt think it would be to the tune of $100 per night!!. (oh and cheers photome about the test track, gonna look into that as didnt know it existed!)
Am worried now a bit, because although i will have around £1000 on my bank card that i wont be spending, i have these booked:
7 nights in Vegas
1 day car hire in Vegas with Dollar (Mustang)
3 Nights in Fort Lauderdale
3 days car hire with Dollar (Mustang)
7 Nights in Orlando (Four Points Sheraton)
7 days car hire with Dollar (4x4)
I never quite understand how it works as i read that some people have a chunk taken from them, then put back in there accounts 7 days later.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm !0 -

Sorry to dampen your spirits but its not there anymore, was only there for a couple of months a few years ago. It was a GM promotional thing were you could drive any 2 cars for $10, I chose a Hummer on the off road track and the corvette on the road course and then had another go and went for a cadillac (VTS or something like) and a pontiac solstice. The Corvette and the Hummer were both great fun.
As for the card hold, I assumed you had a credit card, I dont know how it works for a debit card, but as Luci says you may be able to leave a cash deposit or nothing at all if you are not charging anything to the room.
Just another thing, I am sure you have it sorted though, Car hire companies will definitely want a deposit if you havent got a credit card. I am not sure you can even hire the car without a credit card, but as I said you prob have it sorted0 -

With the kind of price drop you're seeing would it be worth dropping a day of your holiday (or your OH going straight into work from the airport as it's probably training day rather than a real school day ?)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Hi
As part of my 30th birthday trip to new york (Which we have decided to extend to cover LV, SF and LA) going to be stopping in vegas from 8/8 for maybe 3/4 nights, flying in from new york. Although it seems corny want to stay at Bellagio and have found rate of 490.95 for 4 nights for 1 room which thought was quite good? Is the Bellagio worth it?
What is the best way to see the canyon, will have a car as driving to san fran from vegas, but is it best to book a trip when there or cut short vegas and spend 1 night near the canyon, have a while to plan itenarary but am sure there are a few must sees.0 -
JuneI done my research into hire cars as could'nt get answers, so got the answers myself, and posted them here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2775482=
Debit cards are ok
lets hope i can get away with not too many holds being put on my card!0 -

If you are only there 3-4 nights, I might be inclined to suggest you just take a helicopter trip to the west rim...even though it's not the 'proper' Grand Canyon. If you were there for a week or longer I would say drive and stay overnight at the rim all the way. It's a straightforward drive and while my favorite time at the canyon was nighttime, sunset and sunrise would be a close tie for 2nd...but with such a short time in Vegas, unless it's a lifelong dream, I'd almost skip it entirely...we planned to drive to the GC on our first 10+ trips and never got around to it.
As for Bellagio, personally I only think a fountain view room is worth it but many love the place. I assume that's £ and not $?Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

It it were me I would be contacting each and asking what their policy is on card holds above the price of the booking as it sounds like you may have a lot that may overlap in terms of a hold being placed and not released until you have checked into the next hotel/picked up the next car...if Dollar do put a hold of $300-$500 on your card, it looks like you could have $900-$1500 tied up just in that by the time you pick up the car in Orlando. Excalibur definately used to allow you not to leave a CC if you didn't want any room charge privileges...but that could have changed as it's been years since we stayed there.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
