They can and do oversell planes. They will ask for volunteers with an incentive eg 50,000 miles to change dates. Then if not enough volunteers, they pick on some poor sods with a wedding to go to!!!

We were on a Continental flight from Houston to London that was oversold by 23. They asked for volunteers first - with an incentive ($xxx vouchers for a future flight and guaranteed on the next flight - but we overheard the gate agents saying that the next flight was oversold - the last of the day - and they didn't know why people were being promised seats on the next flight). We only got on because a connecting flight from Cancun was too late getting to Houston...Some people try to work this system and some have reasonable success with it...but I would much rather do whatever I can to get on the flight I booked.

Theres no way in the world would i accept flying the next day, would defeat the object of booking on the friday! and surely airlines cant get away with doing that ?

They could also get you onto another airline with 2 connections (with potential delays), etc. and a terrible journey time...remember if they oversell chances are the status holders will get bumped to make room for non-status holders...I really don't think that getting there late is the way to go...but I'm not a big risk taker on these things.

Whilst were on the subject of the 2 seats at the back of virgin plane... I know there not 100% yours like any seat but are you more likley to get moved from these 2 than if you booked 2 on a row of four? Only asking as were looking to book our flights for next Sept as soon as they are avalible and if we are lucky enough to get a set of 2 we would reserve them but Im not a good traveller so wouldnt want to get them and then be split up that would be my worst nightmare (not sure it would be the hubbys though haha) :)

My seats were switched for both legs of our flight at xmas. We only booked the flights about 2 months in advance so there weren't many seats to choose from left (no 2 seats on their own at the back). I had 2 aisle seats booked and checked my seats online about an hour before online check in opened and they were fine. Checked in online about 5 minutes after online checkin opened and they had been switched:eek: However, the seats they had been changed to were the 2 on their own at the back so that was a bit of a result :rotfl: Flight was full too so I guess there would be a couple of very unhappy people.

Same thing happened on the return, checked in not long after online checkin opened and both seats had been switched from 2 aisles to 2 together in a middle 5. No other choise of seats to move to either so I was not impressed as we both wanted either side of the aisle. Luckily when we got on the plane there were loads of empty seats to move to including the 2 I had originally chosen!

There was no change of plane either so i don't know why it happened. Its one of the reasons (the other being excessive alcohol comsumption from other passengers) that I wouldn't consider flying that route again.

Remember Virgin are starting to replace the Alitalia Five with A330s in April, so thats a real big change of plane if theyre taking bookings for a 747.

The A330s are initially going on the Orlando route, with Manchester getting them first

But didn't you buy from Crown Currency in the past lol
    BTW have a great trip!!!
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    Hi,

Off at the end of November for a long weekend with the girls :j

Planning on going to see Matt Goss on the Saturday night and booking to eat somewhere before in caesars. Don't want to spend a fortune but happy to spend about $50 each for a main and sharing a bottle of wine. We all like most types of food and would prefer somewhere with a nice relaxed atmosphere and nice food rather than fine dining. Don't want to go to Cheesecake Factory as we are planning on eating at the Grand Lux in the Palazzo the next night.

    Any suggestions??

    Thanks

Have a reservation with Dollar next week for a convertible.and was just checking their site to make sure i was not missing out on any last minute price drops ( which i am not btw) . I then see that all the convertibles listed are PT cruisers !? I hope that this is because all the decent looking cars i.e. mustangs have been allocated, and not because this is a change to their fleet. Anyone picked up a soft top from Dollar recently and can help calm my nerves ?
