    Restaurant.com alert.....

New month started this morning and stripburger certs are available. Just got a $25 voucher using the gift certificate trick.

That should help me save a few quid against the 600 I will lose in the CCE mess:mad:

New to all this, we are going next year, How long do these gift certificates last please and where would be the best place's to buy for, there's 8 of us going for my -0th Birthday! (trick? any info, pretty please).
We're staying at the MGM and have read the $20 trick doesn't work any other useful info from people who've stayed here welcomed:).
I'm working my way through this fantastic thread, but it's taking a while.x

What is this "trick", have I missed something?
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

buy a restaurant.com gift certificate when an 80% or 90% off code is available...then use that gift certificate to buy the certificates for the restaurants that always sell out very early in the month, before any of the codes are available.

Someone (sorry, cannot remember who, should probably go and look for the original post in order to give proper credit) posted that they had read about it on TA not too long ago.

Worked for us too...we bought a $100 gift certificate with an 80% off code...so can buy 4 x $25 certificates with that (have already bought 2 this way).

Oh, just don't buy a gift card unless you have an address in the US it can be sent to - I did that accidentally...thankfully my address on file with them is my sister's...so she scanned the gift card and sent the scan to me so I could see the number!

Oh, and in case anyone read my previous posts re. a way of possibly getting Stripburger and other popular restaurant.com certs with 80% off...it works!

    Here's what you do:

    (1) Wait until an 80% off code becomes available part way through the month - usually posted on here somewhere, or will be emailed to you if you sign up an account at restaurant.com

    (2) Go to the restaurant.com site and click on the "Gift a Gift" tab towards the top right of the page

    (3) Scroll down past the gift cards to an option headed "Give Restaurant.com Gift Certificates", select the quantity and denomination you want e.g. 2 x $25 then 'add to cart'

    (4) On the next page, enter the 80% off promo code , apply it to your order then proceed through to the checkout to pay as normal

    (5) You will be emailed confirmation of your order which allows you click through and print &/or email it to yourself, or the same info should appear in your account

    (6) On the first of the month when new certificates are launched, go back to restaurant.com, click on the "Redeem Your Gift" and input the certificate code number

    (7) On the next page a message should be displayed confirming that the certificate has been approved and a credit for e.g. $25 has been applied to your shopping cart, and at the top right hand side of the page the same amount should be shown as "Credit Available"

    (8) Proceed as you would on restaurant.com to find the restaurant you want e.g. for Stripburger input zipcode 89109 and a radius of 5 miles - restaurants are sorted by letter on the next page

    (9) Choose the certificate you want, add it to your cart and when you check out the value of the certificate will be deducted from your available credit balance

Using the above method, I purchased a $50 gift certificate last week at 80% off using promo code PLATE, total cost $4. This morning from the $50 balance I've bought a Stripburger certificate for $25 (actual cost $2), a Ben & Jerry's 50% off certificate for $5 (actual cost $0.40) and still have $20 credit left to spend.

Sorry this has ended up a bit longer than I was intending, but I hope that helps someone!

I just done this bought the vouchers last week at 80% off and gave free $10 voucher too. bought Stripburger, Ben and Jerrys, Casa di Amore & The Flame steakhouse.

Are these only valid for the user? As someone gave me some on here which they did not use.

No, you can use certificates someone has given you so long as they haven't previously been redeemed.

And thanks for finding the original post by Vikki74! :)

I did the tour on the day, got there relatively early in the morning. This was about 5 years ago though so it may have changed

we've done the Hoover Dam tour twice - drove ourselves both times and bought tickets when we arrived...both times we did have to queue for the start of the tour (a short movie) but it moved quickly enough.

    Info here:

Should have said that we have only ever done the Power Plant tour - not the more extensive tour.

We stayed at MGM in May and did the Prima originally we were told that they had no upgrades available I showed $20 and suddenly a Hollywood suite was available for our 2 week stay, I said it was our honeymoon and we would really like a celebrity spa suite and we got it, after being told there was nothing available, we were at check in for about 45 mins but well worth the time and $20. Got to say from other reviews I was surprised we got an upgrade at all.
