Rod Stewart is going to be appearing at the Colossuem from 6 November for 2 weeks and then deciding if he will do a 2 year residency.
Saw him at Ipswich football ground about 20 years ago along with Status Quo, we were standing right in front of the stage, it is one of the best concerts I have been to.0 -

I'm off to San Francisco & Las Vegas in November for my husbands 50th birthday. We're staying at the MGM Grand. Stayed there in 2007 and really enjoyed it. (Although it's huge and takes forever to get anywhere...LOL!)
There's so much to do Vegas that I'm kind of at a loss about what to plan. We've got a lot planned in San Francisco, so I think we'll be a bit more chilled out in Vegas. I'd like to take a trip to a decent size Walmart while we're there. We don't drive, so does anyone know if I can get to one by public transport, or should I just get a taxi there & back?
I'd also like to see a show whilst we're there. We live in London, so we go to the theatre fairly often & would like to see something that we can't see in London. I quite fancy seeing something along the lines of a showgirl thing, but really quite open to suggestions. I was planning on going to the Tix4Tonight outlet to see what is on offer, but if I had a few shows in mind, that might help me decide!
Another thing I wanted to pick your brains about is buying an ipod touch. I am planning on buying one for my husband while we're out there (or ordering from Amazon.com & getting delivered to our hotel in SF). Would there any issues with using them in the UK? Would the itunes store on the touch show the prices in $?
I definately want to eat at the Cheesecake Factory & hubby wants to eat at the Harley Davidson cafe. We're doing an ihop in SF, so no need to find one in Vegas. The Peppermill sounds great too. Everything just takes so long to get to, though. Thinking I might keep a stash of cereal bars in the room, have one when we get up, then won't be starving by the time we find a place to have a 'proper' breakfast.
Not that fussed about gambling (yes, I know...:rotfl:) but will have a go with some slot machines or maybe a quick spin on the roulette wheel. Any suggestion for a casino (almost) virgin?
We're planning to head to Freemont Street on the bus one evening. I remember going there last visit and drinking HUGE frozen margaritas, then eating a meal at the Golden Gate casino. Yum!
Oh! Almost forgot to ask. Is there anywhere inside the MGM Grand where I can get free wifi? McDonalds or Starbucks, maybe?
Ooooh, I'm so excited I'm practically vibrating!!!! Getting our travellers cheques & cash sorted tonight. Going with Crown Currency Exchange after reading about them on here.
Anyway, thanks again & I've really enjoyed really the travel reports from peoples trips. Sounds like some unforgettable holidays have been had!
I was going to suggest Crazy Girls as a showgirl show. always 2 for 1 offers in the free books flying about.
Can recomend KA at the MGM, you wont see anything like it in London as the theatres are just not big enough.
Loads of Walmarts in Vegas, but I always drive, I think there is one a couple of miles along Tropicana from the MGM, best to google walmart, Vegas and then map them
I pod wont be any cheaper in the US (I dont think) and there may be an issue with the warranty if you get it home and it has a problem.
Not sure what you mean about Casino suggestions, If you mean low limits on the strip head for Casino Royale. Otherwise use whichever one you like. MGM has some $10 minimum Roullette and quite a few with higher minimums.
I prefer to gamble in the evening so usually gamble where I stay, have to say I have never had any luck at the MGM0 -

Thanks in advance,
Thomas Cook have direct flights for £406 leaving on March 30th 2011 . it includes a hire car , but you don't need to pick that up . if you do collect it , you may get stung on the insurance payments so research those .
That £406 direct is superb value and won't last long . and you won't get cheaper !!!
don't search for a flight on the TC site . click on holidays and ask it price up a holiday to Las Vegas leaving from Manchester 7 days .
you can find a hotel later if you want or take one of the packages now .I pod wont be any cheaper in the US (I dont think) and there may be an issue with the warranty if you get it home and it has a problem.
we purchased our Ipods in USA and the Apple store said the Warranty was worldwide . they don't break anyway .
Apple Store is deep inside The Fashion Show Mall . they are always helpful in Apple store , and you won't be the 1st brit to ask about taking a Ipod home .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

It seems if you pre order his album you can get a code for tomorrows pre sale. I assume this is just for residents of the US though. What chances do you think that codes will be leaked?0 -

Exact same Apple/Ipod discussion as from the middle of July and just as then I'm going to point out there are other Apple Stores in Vegas such as in the Forum Shops0

go onto apple.com to price the ipod. remember to add sales tax.illegitimi non carborundum0

SeptemberWading into the Apple debate; some things are cheaper over there. We bought OH's extended warranty (helpful sales guy checked that it would be valid in the UK, and as it's worldwide, it was OK to buy it there and register it here) in the FSM Apple Store. The Forum Shops' Apple Store wasn't as friendly, I found.
On the Macbook Pro extended warranty we saved over £40 on the UK price; seeing as we were in Vegas anyway it seemed a no brainer to me. It's certainly worth checking the prices out. The only thing they have got us over a barrel with is the 3G Ipad, which needs jailbreaking if you buy a US one to work here.0 -

My sister goes to Scotland to see him everytime he plays...ive still not seen him live would love to in vegasExact same Apple/Ipod discussion as from the middle of July and just as then I'm going to point out there are other Apple Stores in Vegas such as in the Forum Shops
Trets - is this one for the front page somewhere? I abused apples free internet in both fashion show and the forum mall this year, saved paying for it....
In relation to price - my OH was going to buy one of the "big" ipods - it was $250 in vegas, so by the time sales tax added, not much of a saving (tesco have for £193)...not to mention extra points offers etc you can get so he left it.0 -
AprilCaesars Palace £151 - Forum Tower £167 Deluxe room
What kind of deluxe room? They have deluxe rooms in most of the towers I think...Palace Tower Deluxe? That's my guess based on prices...we've stayed in one of them and it was brilliant, really really big, lovely big bath, separate shower...etc...that said, Forum Tower is newly renovated and meant to be very nice.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
