Have you had the midsize from dollar if so what vehicle do you normally get or from any other renter for that matter
Yes we have had one from Dollar before. Usually some Jap or Korean make, can't remember the names.
BTW it is a good idea to know that it is not always the big cars that get the most luggage in. We hired a charger and the back seats don't go down. Only managed to get one of the cases in the boot, unlike the 300C where the seats go flat.
One of the best we had was a Dodge Caliber compact, cheap as chips, but we got all 4 large suitcases and 2 rollalongs in the darn thing with the seats down.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I assume you mean you have a gold package with gas included. Never heard of Alamo Gold.
Go to the U.S. site and join quicksilver, it alows you to miss the long lines at the Alamo desk in Vegas to pick up your car.
For that matter, join every car hire free scheme there is, we belong to about 5 of them. Never wait in line again, straight down to pick up your car

Cheers Stoneman - yes it's the Gold package.

I've just signed-up for Quicksilver like you advised. Do they send you a membership card or somesuch?

    Thanks again

Yes, I assume that you will receive an email saying that your membership is processing. You can ask them to email you the membership number if time gets tight, but I received mine within a couple of weeks

I have had a charger and got 4 cases in the boot but the 300c boot was smaller so had to use the back seat (never put any seats flat)

    Just fancy a 4x4

New Cheap spending abroad , credit card with no cash withdrawals fee.

In this weeks email from Martin.

The Clarity card from Halifax* has no foreign exchange fee anywhere in the world, so you can get the best rate possible. Plus it doesn't charge for cash withdrawals, although you will be charged interest even if you repay in full.
The rate for cash withdrawals is a fairly low 12.9% APR (this rate is 'typical' which means two thirds of those that are accepted will get it, the rest will be charged up to 21.9%). This works out as around £1 per month for every £100 withdrawn.
    Cost of £100 worth of...
    Spending: £0

    Cash w/ds: £1/mnth
    Total:
    £1

This card is top for spending abroad and can only be beaten by Nationwide debit card for ATM withdrawals within Europe (see below).
As an additional bonus, if you have a Halifax Reward current account and you apply for the Reward Clarity you'll get £5 each month you spend over £300 on the credit card (ensure you repay in full every month). Read the Best bank accounts guide for how it measures up.
