The fountain view is what made Bellagio for us...as a hotel it's nice, but without the view we would have been a bit disappointed I think - but that's just us...we stayed one night in a fountain view room (booked it as a treat) and haven't considered going back as it just isn't worth the cost to us (again, others will feel differently). Success with the $20 trick will also depend on when you're going (if it's a busy time), when you are arriving (in general it's more likely to get an upgrade mid-week) and how busy the hotel is. You can try the birthday thing, you'll give them your passport as ID when you check in so they will at least know you aren't making that up. :)

yeh and when i check in it will just of turned bday time in the UK, im sure i can play on everything :)
we are going september mid-week, just as everyone goes back to school, i dont know about vegas but florida is always quiet then

i have paid £100 a night for a deluxe room which tbh i am happy with, if i find something better between now and september ill change it, if not ill take my $20 and english charm and see what they give me. if you dont ask you dont get

You are right, if you dont ask you dont get.

Both my stays at PH and Paris with fountain view upgrades have been with the $20 trick but only paid last year £30 a night at Paris ($60) available at that rate this yera as well.

Vegas is busy all year round, although the Credit crunch has had an effect but UK school holidays dont make any difference.

It may depend if there is a big conference in town while you are there. There is a site to check but not sure which one, there may be a link on page 1

mmmm I wonder how many times they have heard that, having said that I will be trying the same thing when I arrive at the Wynn in Aug for my 50th along with my $20 of course.

Have you checked out the $20 trick sites for success rates

    Heres one http://www.frontdesktip.com/

Stayed there in April for honeymoon, noted reservation as honeymooners, mentioned it on check in and nothing..... :rotfl: We booked a fountain veiw room, as I really wanted one and would have been disappointed if the tip at check wouldn't have worked. The rooms really do need a refurb, and without the fountain view, I'd most likely choose another hotel nearby (unless of course it's cheaper than a Ballys room - lol).

Is anyone booked to go with a non EU carrier over the next few months (AA etc). I'm looking at prices again for Sept, but nervous after getting stuck in April (volcanic ash), and that non EU carriers aren't covered for expenses......

Or, did anyone get stuck with anyone except BA or Virgin and how was the experience? Did you get re-imbursed? Ta muchly....

I'm prolbably flying Virgin later this summer because for what I want to do they work out cheapest (for once !) and my friend I'm flying back with has already booked with them. (I'm not a lover of LGW LAS with VS but money is tight) I'd have had no hesitation booking with AA or Delta as they have always treated me well and with flights into Europe as well as UK odds are they'd get me back sooner anyway.

WHen we last went to the Bellagio we offered the tip and could choose between Fountain View or 'Size' as a comp upgrade, we opted for Fountain View which was brilliant when the music came on but would have liked to check out the suite!

I agree with ferf. The Bellagio is nothing special, it's the fountain view that makes it. The room was pretty boring otherwise. And like ferf, we have never felt the need to go back.

As for extras for birthdays, etc I got a card from Stripsteak. Maggiano's sends you a discount email if you sign up on their website and a few restaurants will give you a free dessert - Mon Ami Gabi, Alize, Switch.

Has anyone successfully booked a flight through the AA sale online?

I've been trying to book Manchester/San Diego, Las Vegas/Manchester for £478pp for October for the past 4 days and have got through to 'Finish' only to have a system error, try again later, come up. I must have tried 50 times altogether. I've just rang bookings (for 5p a minute and a £15 booking fee) and been quoted £677 each as the cheapest fare

I've booked loads of times before with them without a problem, although in the last sale I had similar problems and ended up missing a £445 fare, what am I doing wrong!
