How did you book hotels and car hire. If you booked direct with hotels or even 3rd party you should get all/most of it refunded. Some carhire companies allow fee free cancellations (I think carhire 3000 do). Trips may not be so good but worth emailing them given the circumstances
Hotels were through expedia - had a look already and can cancel one of them and only lose one nights charge the other was a non-refundable web deal so thats 440 quid down the swanney
Car Hire was through Carhire3000 so i guess i will be calling them later.
Still hoping for a miracle and the ash clears but i know the chances of that happening a slim0 -

Thats not so good but still worth pleading with them, of course it may be ok by tomorrow but not looking good though, good luck0 -
AprilFlights should be refundable and if you booked hotels direct they should also be refundable, not a great situation but you shouldnt be to much out of pocket
I will get the money for my outbound flights with BA back but not the connecting flights we have booked or the return from Vegas (assuming that flight operates!) as that was with another airline i.e. I didn't book return a return journey.
All accommodation is non-refundable although will still give it a try! Then it's just the train tickets, excursions and money we will lose on currency. No point in getting upset though, not anyone's fault. Just hope I'm allowed to go to work Monday morning (never thought I'd ever say that) as don't want to waste my annual leave doing nothing:j :j0 -

Oh dear that sounds terrible, could you rebook all of it for a later date0 -

Honestly, probably not! It has taken a year to organise & as we are all youngsters we simply won't have the money. I'm lucky in a way as my birthday money will just about cover my losses.
Anyway this isn't really the correct thread to be doing this, if anyone is stuck out there or will be there Monday 26th let me know if you want a free canyon trip sure they would at least let me change the names. Also have a show booked but don't have tickets so not sure how could offer that...:j :j0 -
AprilSorry about the link. It was working when I posted it as I checked, but it's not working now and I can't remember where I got it.
It was working when I tried it too...

we had booked with expedia and managed to get through last night....they spoke to the hotel who agreed a full refund (fingers crossed) so give it a go and call up the customer care line!0 -

There is some hope then.
I dont know if i should start calling now or wait til my flight is officially cancelled.0 -
Im gutted for everyone that is caught up in this and ruining trip plans etc. Always worth trying for the refunds with the booking company and with insurance companies.
I work for one of the biggest UK insurers, and know that sometimes we bend rules slightly in the customers favour for things like this - e.g. the bad publicity would cost us more than the claims we'd pay!! So always worth trying. They don't make a big deal about in the press, but it def happens.
I have a friend that has been caught on the way back from vegas, and was kept in Chicago, he's having about 4/5 days there now, and sounds made up from his facebook status's! Im assuming they have sorted him a hotel etc0 -
Thought that would be the case...
I'm assuming you can tip the doorman to get in?
any ideas on how much this would be and then would you need to pay an entrance fee?
