    Ive tried buffets several times in vegas and wouldnt bother with any of them again.
    You might as well go for a meal as there are loads of offers on the strip.
    Most have offers for steak/prime rib etc.

    As long as you realise you are going to get, at best, average food that's uusally edible, and not to expect too much some of them are decent enough to warrant a visit.

    however, if you are a lardy:
    whose thighs chaff when you walk;
    who sweats profusely after waddling 20m;
    who rates quantity over quality;
    you can't go wrong!

    or a tightass:
    who pays 100's/1000's to go to Vegas but wants to pay peanuts to eat there;
    who knows you only have to tip the waitress a few $'s (or not at all as its easy to sneak out);
    or rates value for money over ridiculously over priced high end cuisine (that may be pretty poor quality);
    it's money saved!!

    in my opinion the buffets are terrible take this from a 17 stone rugby player who likes his food, the mgm was nice but at $30 a time is very expensive. circus circus is best valus one on strip for me but a huge treck away from everywhere. When you compare the price of a Ponderossa in Orlando at $13 Vegas is so over priced. I did love the dennys opposite Mirage if nothing else then for the milk shakes

    It's all relative...I wouldn't set foot in a Ponderosa personally...but I really enjoyed the buffets we tried though admittedly we got discounts/freebies at all...but the Wynn and PH buffets are excellent quality. I wouldn't personally bother with most of the lower-end ones (I will never eat at CC, IP, Flamingo, etc - though have had a decent breakfast at Excalibur)...but we had lunch at the Silverton a couple of trips ago and it was brilliant value and good food. Sam's Town was not great quality, but at $4 each (with 2-for-1) it served a purpose and we certainly got our money's worth.

    I am a lardy, though...so my opinion should clearly be discounted completely.
    Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    The new APD comes in in October.
    The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    okay MGM grand buffet = Average ( but still perfectly acceptable ) .

    but to say "Dennys" of all places is a better meal ( and Value ) than places like The Mirage or Planet Hollywood is crazy talk IMO .

    but each to their own :A
    Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

    Personally if the other connections are dearer (and IF there is a later flight from JFK) I'd book it and then ring AA and tell them you've now got told it's too tight with immigration and they'll almost certainly agree and rebook you at no cost on a later connecting flight.

    It's not impossible but you'd have to be sitting at the front of economy-run to imigration and fly through (and not be departing from a distant gate) to have even a fighting chance of connecting. I'd only do it with hand baggage TBH too.

    For anyone interested in ESTA-related experiences I posted about ours here:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=31866781&postcount=656

    I am really not fussed about the confusion and really don't understand why people get all worked up about filling out a form when they have an ESTA. But if it is a problem, from what we experienced and were told - flying in and out of LAX is currently the answer.
    Hi ferf, thanks for the interesting experience. However, I will be interested at what your husband's experience will be next time you go to the states and you land somewhere other than LAX. I have a friend who still gets the third degree everytime she goes because her return slip got lost once years ago. Hopefully TSA has informed all their agents about LAX.....
