Hi Guys
I'm hoping you can help with with some ideas. I'll be in vegas 22nd to 25th June. I've been for the last few years and to be honest I'm not fussed about the strip this year. I'm actually going for a marathon at lake mead on 26th (don't ask...yeah I know it is going to be crazy hot) so staying at the hacienda on 25th and 26th.
Anyway, I want to get a nice relaxing resort away from the strip for pure relaxation for a few days. I'm not a gambler so a resort without a casino is fine. Can anyone recommend some nice quiet resorts that might fit the bill?
Thanks
not had any experience of staying off strip but mgm signature if you do up on strip might be ok, close to airport plus can gead straight down to and from lake mead without sitting in traffic, rooms are good and away from strip plus has fantastic pool to relaxHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. SeptemberHad a quick look around but cannot see any advice on two things
1) What is the most effective way to buy chips in the casinos - change into $ in UK, take cash, use debit card - or some other way (and also how to change it back if you are lucky enough to have anything left !! )
2) I like to play video poker on the $1 machines - if I was lucky enough to get a royal flush it pays $4000 - so they take 30% tax from that , or is there a form you can fill in here or there that exempts you ?0 -

We change some cash beforehand, and use the 'good' debit/credit cards for cash/shopping.
As for wins in excess of $1199, most casinos will do the paperwork for you so you do not have to have 30% withheld, but not all. They aren't obliged to do it, but most do.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
SeptemberAre you saying you STOLE them?!
We always take our own pillows for the flight, have you seen the bugs you can get??
Anyway, we then just swap our nice pillows for their nice(r) pillowsThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

So you are allowed to keep the tax ? I was led to believe you could not reclaim it. Anyone have any ideas which casinos DO WITHOLD it if that is the shorter list !0 -

Been offered trip in helicopter to GC and over strip for £260+ pp from Virgin. Seems steep. Which companies do you recomend? arggh

Check out http://www.papillon.com/ instead, I just did a heli tour with them for $234 USD per person, much cheaper than £260 GBP!
LVA-1 is a 10% off code and their half day, with landing/lunch/champagne is $260 USD minus the discount! The Head Honcho (does very little work)0 -
MayThe promo code for the deal is SIG023 I re-registered my email address to get it last night but its no good for me as it only runs till 31st Aug and we go in Sept typical haha. Cant wait to get back I love the place
Thanks that's really helpful. I'm pleased to find someone else who loves The Signature! I think I like the fact that it is a bit smaller so you get more personal service, don't have to wait ages for reception, concierge, taxi etc and we have always got a sun lounger right by the pool which for some bizarre reason is really important to me. The walk to the strip doesn't really put me off as we tend to walk up East Harmon Ave. That said, we did stay at Planet Hollywood for one night (long story) and I did like being central, but wouldn't stay there again.
I hope you manage to get a discount - I'm sure something will appear for September. Might it be worth e-mailing the hotel to ask what they can do for September? They seem keen to get people booked so may be prepared to extend the offer and you can always rebook if something better comes up.
I am still on the look out for one of the percentage discount codes that were available a while back (stupid me for not using them then!) so if anyone gets one I'd really appreciate a heads up.There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.
Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.
MSE Aim: To have more "thanks" than "posts"! :T0 -
AprilGo and see Terry Factor at the Mirage. We are just back from vegas yesterday and we saw him and the Lion King and he was fantastic, your husband will love him. We stayed at the Mirage as well, hugely recommended, just the best hotel on the strip IMO, not too expensive, lots going on and great places to eat, as well as a great pool!!0
