Well, as far as I know, DS has gone - I left the airport once they had been called through, and they were expecting no problems but I notice on the airport website that it is still on the board, so will just wait and see if there are any announcements - DS certainly hasn't texted or phoned to say there is a problem, so I will assume all is well.
pepe - yes, we are early birds here - no such thing as a late start on my thread!
shaun, with salt and grit on emergency rations, I hope that your lot get lucky with finding the secret supply that councils in the UK are looking for!

Hey! That's great news :T Well done you for making it happen0

Delighted to read that DS is on his way :T
It means you don't have to feed him out of your £198 that is to last you to the end of the month :rolleyes:As you say, that's actually rather a lot of money
I really liked your story of how it was and what it is like now. It reminds me of my own situation - when I had only enough money for one meal a day - mashed potato, baked beans and fish fingers (all Tes£o value range)! When our business closed in '96 we had to sell nearly everything of value so that we could keep a roof over our heads - the internet was new then, so no Amaz0n, eb@y etc., just cashback shops and second hand dealers. Then, in 2001 I became single, inherited £8K of debt and spent two years working 74hours a week to clear it. That experience makes me so grateful that this site exists as that time was the most gruelling and lonely time of my life.
Be proud of all that you have achieved Hypno and thanks for sharing it with us on MSE. Enjoy the relative quiet now that DS is away too :rotfl:0 -
Yes, I am proud of what we have achieved......it was certainly a lot easier to do this year than when we first did it two years ago......back then it scared me silly, not to mention exhausted me completely. This year, we had the bulk of it covered by my Christmas bonus and the council tax refund.....and the rest of it was paid for with SAVINGS (yes, it was a word I was not previously familiar with, either!) and careful budgeting from income.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi Hypno
Just wanted to let you know how you are influencing my life!! I think I am slowly turning into Hypno, ha ha.
My son has at last got a paper job and he is going to be earning a small fortune. So he can now manage his own finances. Also I have registered to take in foreign language students. We have a flat in Edinburgh with views of the Castle and so I will be swapping my bedroom to let some lovely european teenagers appreciate the sun rising over the skyline.
Horror of horrors though, it probably means I will have to get up a lot earlier so I will become even more like you. Not bad.
Ta very much for all the ideas, info, so appreciated.0 -
Lol deedee - I hope you are not soaking up my imperfections too.......I would check out the amount of cellulite you are carrying.....it may be increasing if my life is anything to go by
That is a really good idea to give the foreign students the excellent view - mine get a view of the old man's garden over the road.......I could sell it as "view of an English Rose garden" perhaps
I am glad that you are getting some good ideas from here and hope they are making a difference! Good luck to your son too - since my two started earning their own money, it has taken a lot of pressure off me, and has definitely shown the children that more effort put in = more money to spend :TSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. So glad DS made it on to his flight - another thing sorted - it is definitely going to be your year Hypno.
Your story about being short after Christmas reminds me of when we were so desperate before payday once beariing in mind paydays are once every 6 months that 1 week before payday I had to take a cash advance on my CC to pay the mortgage and essential bills thereby ruining a balance transfer deal that I had on it with a very high balance it took a long time to get that card clear and I am so glad we are not in that situation now.
So however bleak things are if you stick at it you can get out of it and eventually reach that light at the end of the tunnel (with a lot of help from your MSE friends)

You are right DT.....when I was awake at 2am because of the flight-pondering issues, I was also letting my brain run away with pensions provisions and mortgage overpayment potentials.
That too is a far cry from the nightmares about bailiffs knocking on the door and working out how I am going to cover cheques I have written without money in the account to cover them
Character building......all of it!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
