Where has ds gone? I was only thinking yesterday that if you came to pontypool now he could ski on the real stuff. They don't need to use the dry slope at the moment0

Chamonix.......he'll be there for a few weeks, then home for a week or so then off to Norway.....life's tough for him at the moment :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hypno,
You are really making me smile this morning. 'View over English rose garden' sounds lovely. I am not being purely selfless at giving over my room. The truth is that the spare room is choc full of junk which came out of our old loft and garage, neither of which we have now so you can imagine. Everything in there but the car. Although I am also thinking of making space for a 'diesel oil out of chip fat' thingy in the Spring.
I said to the lady, 'Can you give me a few days before the home visit, just need to declutter a bit' She said, 'Don't declutter too much, we like it look homely'!!
Now, I do have a slight problem, we have a nice spare bed and chest of drawers but no wardrobe. So I either let them have mine until I can afford to get another one. I probably need to get a few other bits and pieces if we are going for 'homely' and will need to have the heating on a bit more.
What did you do initially? Must be worth it in the long run?0 -
Deedee surely you could just get a clothes rail for the students rather than giving up your wardrobe?0

I would have to be seriously ill to be able to sleep in that long, pickle!
DD on the other hand is one of those that needs to be woken up at midday otherwise she would sleep all day given the chance!
Well, in my defence, I didn't go to bed until nearly 2 last night and was awake for a while before I got up (I hadn't realised that it was quite that late) but was listening to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Stephen Fry's dulcit tones are enough to make anyone not absolutely required to get out of bed reconsider leaving - the very definition of aural sex. Please call me 'Pickle'

Shaun this happened to me yesterday! bath and sink wastes both refused to drain, I ran lots of boiling water down kitchen sink (as it goes to same pipe eventually and was ok) and stuck some salt into bathroom sink. Also turned a fan heater on full blast to warm the room up. Don't know which of these worked but it did work eventually.Mortgage OP 2025 £6750/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

Hi Hypno,
Not had much time today, but wanted to check your DS had gone and arrived OK. X
Many memories of my two travelling alone internationally to go on music courses or visit school friend. As adults you have debit/credit cards as an emergency stopgap, but as youngsters it's not so good. So it was always a relief when they arrived OK.
One memory was a very nearly 18 year old emaililng from the business lounge in thailand after staying with a school friend's family, we'd used air miles and no economy flight available for the trip home. He was so pleased at not having his age checked for drinks at the business class lounge or on the flights!!!! He did get home ok, and had been sensibleespecially has he had a conneciting flight on the way back.
We saw it in retrospect as all part of growing up nowadays, lots of people have to travel independently a lot for work. Our two aren't really worried about flying anywhere for conferences/work/social commitments now, admittedly if research is needed, I'm still requested to look things up occasionally, but it's nice to be wanted a bit
Also with OH's work the boys have quite often had to fly out to join us wherever we were. But it's just makes there safe zone expand.
One time we wondered where DS2 had vanished to at Heathrow, his flight had arrived, it turned someone on the same music courses luggage hadn't arrived, so he was showing her how to deal with it as he'd had the same situation before.
Many times we've contacted hotels etc directly to bill their bills to our cards, emails have said it's ok, but then the boys have had problems, so maybe something to watch out for in the future.
Sorry for waffling, but all this is great experience for DS & DD not just in skiing, hope DS has a super time.
A DS vanishing is definitely going to reduce the food budget, that combined with a grocery/fridge/freezer challenge is going to be a good month in that respect.
Have a super month to start the new year Hypno, and hope DS enjoys his skiing.
As you know I home educated for a while, so one to one or very small groups like tutors, does mean that they can keep up easily in a very small amount of time for main stream subjects, and give them lots of time to spend on their priorities like skiing in your case or music in my two's at the time.
Hope your DD's cafe phone soon. I was thinking even if the snow doesn't go, people will have to start shopping more soon, then they'll need the coffee shops to thaw out in. If it does thaw, they'll be on catch up, so lots of shoppers
P.S. Just saw how long this post is, sorry!!0 -
Glad your DS got away ok
