Surfbabe, I was sorry to read your news this morning - remember, there are no "rules" about how you feel in this situation, so don't worry about what other people are doing, or when other people tell you what you should be doing, or what it was like when their parents died etc - this is personal to YOU and so YOU must do what YOU need. Look after yourself....you are very important xxSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. So sorry to hear that Surfbabe. It sounds like it was quick, which I'm sure is a blessing. My sympathies to you and your family x0

Morning Hypno, what's in store for you today?0

Morning Hypno, what's in store for you today?
Well, the children have opted not to ski today - they are both tired, and are off to Norway in a few days, so this is a rare chance for them to sleep in.......maybe they will ski in the later sessions - we shall see.
Then they want to go and visit OH for a couple of hours, so while they are there, I will nip to do a top up shop - I have £20 cash (not my £20 challenge money, but £20 that DS owed me that he paid me yesterday) and so I really want to use that as my grocery money, so I have a very carefully thought out list, and will be going round Tesco with a calculator.....it will be interesting, if nothing else! Whilst some things are real basics like milk....I also need dishwasher tablets, fabric softener and a couple of other bigger things that will eat that meagre budget right up if I am not careful!
I also need to go to B&Q to get the paint to do DDs room while she is in Norway.....that comes out of the "home improvements" savings that I have (a whole £60 lol) so again doesn't cause me any financial problems - if I can get a tin cheap enough, I might do the dining room as well, as it looks rather "tired" but is an easy room sizewise and furniturewise, to do so could be done in the evenings.....
Other than that, just pottering - trying to keep on top of the flylady stuff I have done, and to chip away at everything else!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Do you break your dishwasher tabs in half to make them go further? I'm sure you already do, but that's an MSE tip I picked up years ago from OS and still do it!
Good luck with the hunt for cheap paint. Hope you get loads done x0 -
I can't think of many other people who would describe redecorating two rooms in their evenings in a very short time frame as "just pottering". Wanna pay me a visit? I do enough painting at work that I really can't be arsed to do it at home too.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

We have very hard water here, so some dishwasher tabs just don't work well enough, and we have had plenty of "false economies" buying cheapies, or breaking them in half....sadly. It is very disheartening when you empty the dishwasher, only to have to redo half of it by hand
I will see what is on offer and take it from there.....
As for decorating, I am quite looking forward to it - I used to do a lot of painting, and find it a great way of switching off, but then the clutter entered our lives and I discovered that I couldn't get anywhere near the walls even if I wanted to!
Now the clutter is going, and while I have no beds to navigate round etc, and especially with both children away for a week, I reckon it is an ideal opportunity to don those dust sheets and renew a hobby......Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Pity, we have soft water, so it seems to work ok here...
I'm with you on the painting - I love it too. Wallpapering is even better!!! My problem is time - I need to take holiday from work as the kids are too small and get in the way, but need to save my hols for the school holidays....
Right must get on, have a good day all x0 -
I'm not so keen on wallpapering - I have done it before and made a reasonable job of it, but didn't find it as therapeutic as painting.
It's the prep I hate - all the sanding, and filling......but the actual painting is something that I can quite look forward to! It will freshen the place up nicely.......trouble is, I like the colours we have at the moment in most rooms, and if I am going to paint, I might as well have a change of colour otherwise no one will notice it, and so I have got to find new paint that will go with the existing soft furnishings, but that is different to the colours we already have.

Surfbabe - condolences my dear, I'm so sorry for you and your family, hugs xx
Hypno - I hear you on the crumpling later, I did exactly the same when my ex walked out, coped amazingly well as I flipping well had to, there was noone around to prop me up, then found myself a few months later, regular as clockwork, sitting on the sofa sobbing my heart out every Monday night
re: dishwasher tablets, what a switch eh?!
Have you tried Mr T's value ones? They're ultra cheap and are the best rated ones on Which, scored more highly than Finish etc etc, so I feel vindicated that I've been using them out of financial necessity for years, lol0
