the hoover is ok - it just cuts out if you use the tools for too long, so generally when I am about two thirds up the stairs, it decides it has had enough - then it takes half an hour before you can switch it on again.

oh dear, a hoover programmed to how I feel! give it a cup of tea and a rest and it'll be fine:D.

I'm only doing well because I have to. If I cave in to the enormity of what is happening, I will crumple and won't find it easy to dig my way out. I have too much to do to fall apart :o

I'm sure it will all hit me in due course - and I just have to be ready for it and get as much of the practical stuff sorted now, so that it doesn't suffer when I eventually do crumple.

You'll do fine Hypno, you will cope because you have no option but hopefully in a while you will be able to relax and enjoy life a wee bit more :grouphug:.

You do seem like you've been holding it in......
Maybe a controlled crumbling might be the answer? When the kids have gone to visit Dad, you can let rip - release the valve for a while...

There's no shame in falling apart, but knowing you it will only take little outbursts for you to feel better (if any of that makes sense :o).

I'm due to be collecting the babysitter in 20mins, I'm not ready and still need to vacumn the front room - I'm getting evils from OH! Eeek.

    Take care xxxx

I did ring the customer helpline about it when I first got it, but they said they all do that, so I just have to put up with it.

That's crap! What model is it?

I don't hoover my stairs too frequently, though, so it is not holding my life up too much in any great way!

I don't know.....it's a vacuum cleaner, that's about as close to one another as we have got :o:rotfl:

To be honest, the half hour cutting out time is perfect, as it presents me with the ideal opportunity to have a coffee :D

macgirl, when Dad died, I did the whole "doing really well" thing......for a while, and then I felt absolutely shiite as the weeks went by. Eventually, two years later, I had a big proper crumple. I remember that time so well, that I am hoping I recognise the danger signs early on when the same thing inevitably happens again.

Hypno once the mortgage is sorted and you have that extra bit of cash, can I suggest that the next time the kids are off skiing that you take a week off work and book yourself a little break...time for you to crumble in style and not keep it in for 2 years where it will get worse and worse.

  • I don't really know how to write this, but my first experience of great distress saw me falling into a chasm of despair two years after the event. More recently the great distress has been more like splashing into puddles - a little and often sort of crumble, brought about I think because I've been more honest with myself about how I feel and don't make a judgement on that (about how I 'ought' to be or concern about what others might think). Not sure why I'm sharing that - guess it's just to say it doesn't have to be the same as before, though the distress may feel similar.

Glad the hugs continue to all who need them. Surfbabe my heart goes out to you and your family as you care for your mother - MND is a vicious and cruel disease. Shaun, I hope that all goes well with your father.
