These brownies are gorgeous, and cheap to make. Only one egg and no butter.
I use value mayo (yes!), value plain chocolate (27p) and normal caster sugar instead of golden and muscavado. I also use milk with a drop of vinegar instead of buttermilk.
They turn out delicious every time! I've eaten two this morning0 -
ok well weetabix brownies sound interesting - they just sound a bit healthy though. Are you sure they taste good and will go with ice cream?
Cheesecake means buying all the ingredients though, but we do love cheesecake.
Wondering about ice cream cookie sandwiches now too, as im sure ive seen how to make them somewhere0 -
I love that Weetabix Brownies recipe! Especially when I make it with the Co-op's Value plain chocolate at 30 pence for a 100 gramme bar. I've only got two pieces left in the tin so I might make some more this afternoon. Yum, yum, yum.
ETA: Yes, they are delicious and will go perfectly with some vanilla ice-cream or creme fraiche. The Weetbix gives it a nice, interesting texture. If you didn't know there were Weetabix in there, I don't think you'd be able to guess0 -
Hi
I have volunteered myself the job of making desert on Saturday for a picnic style meal. My brother wants brownies but its all I seem to make lately and I fancied something different, plus the brownies I make are not very cheap, using lots of eggs, dark chocolate and ground almonds.
Ive got the following criteria though:
My bro would like it to go with vanilla ice cream
Husband doesnt do fruit (dried is fine but not fresh really) or meringue
I have looked through recipe books but im well and truly stuck, I want it to be a cake or something but they dont really go with ice cream.
Suppose I could always make some fruit sauce for my mum and some chocolate sauce for others. What else could I make to go with it and make it more exciting? Could be a fun option but any ideas are welcomeMight fit the picnic style meal' though?
You can either use a biscuit dough or fairy cake for the 'bun', brownie for the patty and rolled biscuits for the 'chips'. Red and yellow icing for the ketchup. It's not difficult at all.
A word of warning, don't make them too big. They're quite sickening :rotfl:
I rushed mine so they didn't look so nice, but a quick google brought this up:
The 'lettuce' looks like tinted coconut.0 -
freyasmum - thats is amazing!
My brothers ice cream could be made into a mini milkshake to go with it all. Its very heston stylee!!
How do you get the burger bun shape? I imagine dropping it onto a baking sheet might work?
I could do with some fried and onion rings LOL0 -

Wow, it's evolving!Love the idea of a milkshake! I made them last night and had two people asking me to make them for birthday parties :rotfl:
I just rolled biscuits into a ball and then flattened slightly on the baking tray. They did all the hard work themselves :A Or you could use a fairy cake and just cut it in half?
Or a variation.. hotdogs made in mini loaf tins, with tinted blondies as the, erm, dog? :rotfl:0 -
This one is more thrifty - cocoa instead of chocolate
They come highly recommended :T

I have this recipe (number 3) in the oven at the moment - haven't tried it before, but it was very easy to do, and it will appeal to OH who insists on having raisins in everything! lol
ETA I needed to cook them for longer than the recipe stated - I cooked mine for 50 minutes, but it may just be my oven. They are cooling as we speak, and they smell gorgeous!Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170 -
Hi boo,
There are some lovely recipes on this thread so as it's dropped down the Old Style board, I've added it to the main thread on chocolate brownies to keep the replies together.
