Overdue baby, what to do in the meantime?

I am a week past my due date and going potty at home! Has anyone got any good (money saving?) suggestions of things I should be doing while I wait or anything to keep me occupied?

I've already filled up my freezer compartment (only got a little fridge!) with some home made meals...

Thank you very much in advance!

  • Yes, stop hanging around the house and waiting. GO OUT.

Make yourself a two week calendar and put something in to do each day. i.e.

Visit a friend or family for an hour or so
Walk to the local shop for a bit of shopping, bread, milk, anything
Will have to wait until they start up again, but visit each mum and tot group, sus them out.

Just dont commit to anything that cannot be changed, and dont buy tickets for anything !!!

The baby will come one day - that's for sure.

All the best for the birth.

I hear scrubbing the floor helps to move the baby along a bit, and gives you a clean floor!
  • Buy a book of crossword puzzles ( I've still got the one I started jotting down the times of my contractions on!)
Catch up with a few of your favourite DVDs 'cause you won't get to watch them for a while!
Enjoy the peace and quiet and ignore the people who constantly phone up every day asking 'any news?'

I know exactly how you feel, I was 19 days late with the first and 12 with the second ( but they won't let you go that long now!)
  • Do something just for you airhostess it will be along time before you get anymore totally me time once the baby comes even when someone looks after baby for you you will just worry to begin with so enjoy your time pamper yourself. Even simple things like just reading a book with out being interupted you will miss.

You could start a scrap book if you have pictures of your bump and your scan photos and its something you can continue once baby is here. I have a lovely one with all three of mine in :-) x

I had my baby in June and he was 12 days overdue, I know exactly how you feel!

Each day, I made sure I had one big job to do at home (eg giving all the floors a good clean, cleaning out the cupboards in the kitchen, tidying the garden (it was summer lol) etc), and one reason to get out the house, like getting bread and milk from the shop, visiting someone, or simply going for a walk if nothing else.

I was huge, I couldn't get my hands to meet round my belly, so these things were maybe a little adventurous to some people and they were a massive effort to complete, but it really kept me going and for me was a whole lot better than 'resting' at home. Keeping active really took my mind off the fact I was overdue, and as my midwife kept telling me, the more active you are the easier labour 'should' be. I don't know about that though, as ended up being induced and ended up with an emergency c-section - nothing to do with my pre-labour activities may I add!
  • No-one ever warns you about the boredom of going overdue do they?

I was due on the 6th and gave birth on the 19th (many years ago) I remember being all geared up for the 6th and planning things for before then, then twiddling my thumbs for a fortnight. I lived in a village so couldn't do much, my gym stopped me from swimming there as I was a risk (casually got asked when my due date was by the receptionist, 15 minutes later I was asked to leave to the pool - this was at 38 weeks, I was a health risk in case my waters went), and I couldn't fit behind the steering wheel so couldn't drive.

    Hope it all goes well!

Get lots and lots of lie ins, you need all the sleep you can get!

Clean ( the urge is probably already there :rotfl:)

Get a haircut, or a manicure, whatever. Make time for yourself before it all totally vanishes :rotfl:

  • I really feel for you OP, i was in your position 6 years ago. Daughter was due on boxing day and went into labour just after the bells on New years eve.
As others have said take advantage of the peace and quiet you have just now! Watch a dvd, have a bath, buy and read your favourite magazine in peace:D

The waiting is tedious i know, but worth it in the end. I went sale shopping up town on my due date:p Passed the time.

Pamper yourself - haircut, spa, coffee and lunch out with friends. You won't get much time once babs arrives!! Enjoy the peace and quiet.
