i think the postage and packaging DSR should be removed, you as a buyer are made fully aware of what the P&P charge is before commiting to buy, YOU have a choice, if you feel P&P is too high then do not buy from that seller but to continue to buy then moan P&P is too high is not only unfair but unjust.

I sent some items that with royal mail cost me £1.22 and £1.66 (2 sizes) now i always charge £1.50 postage no matter what (unless using DHL) realisticly i should be charging £2 but people still complain at £1.50 when they see the stamp RM put on saying postage £1.22 they dont take into account the postal tube costs me an extra 20p, the fuel, the parking fee and my time to take it to the post office. IF i wante i could charge £10 P&P and you dont have a right to complain after you agree to buy it at that price with that P&P charge, like i said if you dont like the postage charge dont buy it

I think people do have a right to complain about p and p in many cases. yes you see what you are paying but the p and p star doesn't ask 'did you pay what auction asked' it merely asks for the buyers overall experience. In your case I think 5* would be appropriate as a few pence is perfectly acceptable to cover packaging. However I have left very poor stars before now when I have paid massively over the stamp cost. For instance if you charged me £10 for an item that cost less than £1.50 to post then I would leave 1 or 2 * as that reflects my experience of the transaction.

Then you need to work out why. Free postage does not usually mean you get the full 5 stars, but I don't recall ever coming across anyone else that routinely gets negative stars in a free p and p category. If you have nore than 2 and are not a massive seller then you face suspension.

Do a full report, if you go through the steps I outlined above you cna get reports easily and I think you can get a report that shows which categories you get your low stars in. It might just be somehting as simple as you are getting good stars for the free post items but very bad stars on everything else-in which case you will know how to rectify thing.

Exactly how many 1* and 2* are you showing both yearly and monthly?

I seell mainly in the media categories and so offer free postage and currently my p and p stars are at 4.9 headline with 4.95 for the past 30 days although I do occasionally drop to 4.8 for some reason.

  • I am not sure that a lot of new buyers really understand how much affect the stars will have on seller.

In the past when buying things I have just marked all the stars as 3 as it just felt like "more bothersome Ebay stuff to deal with" and I assumed that 3 was a nice average score.

I now realise that anything less than a 5 is marking a seller down.
“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”

Even if a seller got 4* across the board (which according to the ebay blurb means 'good', they face suspension.)

This is the Amazon model where a neutral actually means 'bad' and a negative means 'criminally bad'.

soolin i appreciate what you are saying about the overall experience but whilst the same item posted through RM may cost £1.50 it cost 2 sellers two totally different amounts to actually post the item, if you live next door to the post office its going to cost you £1.50 + say around 20p packaging, but if you dont live close it could easily cost you the same plus an extra £5 in fuel to get there.

I personally think it should be removed asyou have agreed the price, if you really think it is over priced then look for another seller there isn't many items on ebay that only 1 seller has

Post and packing though is just that, it doesn't mean paying your aunt to send something, insuring your car or the use of public transport. If you have those costs in your business, and many of us do, they you build them into your unit cost as moat buyers will be like me and leave bad stars if they feel the seller is being a bit OTT with what they are charging.

You have agreed a price if its reasonable P&P cost you do not always know how heavy an item is or how much it will cost to send as a buyer so saying you have agreed a price is a pointless argument as we're not psychic

you have no arguement there cyberbob, you agree to pay the price + p&P costs when you click buy it now/place a bid, you were fully aware of the costs before completing the transaction so why should you be able to complain about something you agreed to in the first place??

You dont go to tesco and buy something for £10 then go to customer service desk and say "actually i only want to pay £8 for it" the price is clearly marked you as the consumer have the CHOICE to purchase or not
