    HEAD'S UP!
Yesterday our MrT had crimbo forzen goodies reduced & I picked up a box of tree-shaped m@agnum type lollies & as apple+mincemeat strudel, both for 50p each. The shelf labels were white so really you need to have a good look, as there was nothing else to say they were on offer.

Had a rethink re GC, as mentioned before it is hard to do month to month as we paid in middle of month! My aim for now is as I mentioned before, but also to track my receipts etc more carefully, to see what can be ditched lol!
Hope all GC'ers are not too disturbed by the weather and that everyone is ok!

My husband managed to get out to the Co-op and bought some vegetables, mince and bread. He can't find the receipt or remember how much he spent so I will just have to wait until it shows on our bank staement. The Co-op is expensive but as we can't get any further I think this major freeze is saving us money.

Wow thanks for that - i work in a supermarket and know that they do give out free yeast but have never used it (:o) i used to have a BM and any recipes i had called for fast action!! Got rid of BM as i hardly used it but now really want to do hand made bread. Had NO IDEA that fresh yeast could be frozen :o:o:o. Sorry to be a bit thick but how would I use fresh yeast?? Do you have a bread recipe you would share with me please??

    here's one - http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/bread-recipes/basic-bread-recipe

from looking at his recipe 10g of fresh yeast is the equivlent of a 7 g dried sachet.

i usually use a white bread recipe from 'the cookery year', where i rub in some fat to the flour, in a jug mix the liquid and yeast ,then mix into the flour mix.

    good luck

Well day 5 on NSD but think i will have to spend tomorrow need w.u.liquid and sugar.
Had frozen, home made chicken and potato pie (with sweet corn and peas thrown in) from leftover chicken bits last week. Delicious, even OH loved it.He is extremely fussy. Tonight we have chilli and rice made up from last weeks chilli. (i doubled up when i made it last)
I should be able to cope with meals from freezer and stores until i get paid on 15th.
One question, a lot of you smashing people talk about doing an inventory on your freezer, cupboards etc. I know i'm thick but do you write down every single item and why, how does it help? ok i understand its so you can see what you have but what other way will it help. Sorry if i'm stupid but i'm a newbie, although i have been a long time lurker. which i might add is how i came to be almost debt free. you have been helping me for a long time and you didn't even know it. THANKS.

I have only done it once or twice but for me it helped because it meant i bought less. For example if you had chicken in the freezer you might decide to do a roast which means buying veg, pots, gravy, stuffing etc but if i had an inventory i might see i had rice and an onion and think oh i could have chicken risotto (and theres always a little wine lurking :D) - therefore buyig less at the shops.
:rotfl: no idea where that example came from but guess the basics are there

OK now i can see where your coming from elf. thanks. thats another job to do then. I've only just joined all these threads and I've no end of jobs lined up to do.
I know this isn't exactly OS but have to tell someone. I had a phone call this morning from Housing Authority to tell me they are coming tomorrow to measure up for a new back and front door. Hip Hip Hooray! I've only been begging for the last 8 yrs.
Well must go and get the inventory done now.
